"Now, Bob." Mr. Strug said. "Spell 'make' " "M-A-C-K-E." I said. "Incorrect. Now you, Sid." "M-A-K-E." Sid said.

I complained to my mom about the K and Pre-K spelling bee, and asked for her help.

....First Grade....

"Now, Robin." Mr. Thauk said. "Spell 'because' " "B-E-K-A-S-E." I said (that's what I remember my mom teaching me.) "Incorrect." Mr. Thauk looked solemnly at me as he said, "I'm sorry, Robin. You should now how to spell'because' by now. I'm afraid you won't be able to go to second grade."
