Katherine had spent the best part of the night curled up at the edge of a forest, after her ordeal. She shivered and sneezed as her body succumbed to the coldness of the night. She was totally alone. She looked up at the sky. In the distance there was the hope of a sunrise. She felt she couldn't live another day after what happened to her. She had always been very connected to her parents and her boyfriend, through her phone but now she was lost and alone without it. She hadn't eaten or drank any water for 12 hours now. She felt confused, dizzy and sadness that fell beyond grief. She adjusted her pants that were torn and what remained of her ripped clothes and shakily made her way to her feet. Her knees were like jelly. Her thighs were cut up and bruised. She inhaled a deep breath, which caused her chest to burn and ache. She walked, unsteady, away from the forest. She tried to piece together where she was from the hours passed. She couldn't find her shoes and she was missing her socks. The pinpricks of stones, gravel and dirt pierced into her bare feet as she trod away from the forest. As she walked, she imagined people staring at her through the trees. This was all too much. The eyes that belonged to neither human or beast, that gazed at her with malice and the intent to harm, caused a panic sensation through her whole body. She was walking slowly, but felt out of breath. Sunlight was her only hope and it beckoned for her, in the distance.
