Blue.
It was a familiar thing to her.
She had grown up in it.
Blue bedsheets, blue silks, blue eyes, blue lips.
It was a monotonous, cold color.
Meant to represent nobility, her father said.
It was harsh and unforgiving.
It showed no mercy.
Blue, painted on her walls as a child.
Blue, draping over her young sister and enveloping her.
Blue, the colour of her fathers lips as he lay dying.
Blue, the colour painted in her brothers veins as the sat upon the throne.
It was cruel and harsh and showed no mercy.
A day and a month after her sixteenth birthday, she broke free from the blue in the dead of night, clad in the clothes of a servant.
She fled into a world of myriad, swirling colors.
She preferred red.
Red, the colour of roses in spring.
Red, the colour of beautiful, flowing robes.
Red, the colour of the sky at dawn.
Red, the colour of soft lips pressed against hers.
War broke out and red stained the ground.
Red was also a color of anger and violence like she had never known before.
Five years and six months after the last battle, she lived a peaceful life until blue crept back into it.
It wasn't harsh anymore though.
Blue was her sisters eyes.
Blue was the colour of the flowers in her hair.
Blue was the way her sister, the Empress now, held herself.
Blue was her warm smile.
Blue was the way she walked and blue was the colour of shining robes against stone floor
Blue was her lovers cold fingers wrapped around her waist.
Blue was the ribbon tied in soft, brown locks of hair.
Blue was gloves laying forgotten in the snow.
Blue was icy and cold and unrelenting and beautiful.
Blue was gentle.
It was soft.
It was human.
