If you knew somehow that today was YOUR last day on this planet, in this world, what would you do? What could you say you've done with your life? What did you accomplish? For me, at least the Natasha a few years back, I would have been too busy thinking about all the things I haven't done & all the things I regret to actually be proud of all that I've accomplished. Yeah, I didn't go to Italy like I dreamed to do. I didn't become a best-selling author yet. Heck, I didn't even find a cure for cancer. This might be true, but you know what I have done? I've overcome obstacles in my life that I was uncertain of whether or not I could one day overcome. I've learned how to be happy and grateful for all the things that I have, I made someone laugh today, I read an amazing book, I helped someone with a problem they had, met some wonderful people who share the same values as me & I taught myself how to speak a new language. I did do good things in my life that taught me important lessons. I might not have done any of the things that the person that I admire has done, but who said that you have to be just like anyone other than yourself? This world is full of judgements (sometimes judgements that make sense & sometimes judgements that are said to make others feel less important than others) & a bar that is set so high for us to be a certain way, but that's it... we're the ones who set these standards. We're the ones that want to be PERFECT & anyone who knows me knows that I can't stand that word. I can't stand the world PERFECT because of what we've been conditioned to believe that the word means. If you asked someone what they think the word perfect or perfection means, they'd probably say that it means to be flawless; to never or rarely have fault. They might even say that it means to never make a mistake. You know what I say, THE WORD DOESN'T EXIST or at least not in the way that we think it does. It doesn't have to mean to be a shinning example of how someone or something should be. It's all about comparison which in my mind, comes from a place of feeling like you don't meet certain standards that others meet. You personally don't feel like you're "good enough," or that you're contributing to this world like that person over there is doing. "They've done this & that, but look at me. What have I done? Why can't I do those things too?" Who says that you can't do those things? And ask yourself this question: why do you want to do the things that others get praised for doing? Are you just like them; not caring about the praise you'll get, but doing it because you believe that it's going to make the world a better place? Or do you want to do what the person over there is doing just so that others will think you're amazing? In order to live a good life, you've got to know who you are and what you stand for. What do you value? Don't compare yourself to others. It's good that you see other people doing great things to make this crazy world that we live in a better place, so you want to so the same, but there are others ways we make this world better without even noticing that we doing it. We all have a purpose and we're all here for a reason. We're a part of something much greater than ourselves. Find yourself, enjoy the journey, be in the now and think about tomorrow when (if) it comes. Live life in the present moment. You can be the person that you dream to one day become & you have accomplished so much already. Trust in this moment, take time to realize that life is all about the journey and not all about the final destination. You'll be able to say with confidence, "hey, I did accomplish more than I thought, didn't I?" Don't think that you haven't accomplished ABSOLUTELY NOTHING just because you see what others have done in comparison to you. That's great the this person & that person did this & that. Congrats to them, but what do you want to leave as a legacy for YOUR life? This has become a long rant, but I'll end part one by reiterating my initial questions and point for this writing prompt of mine. If you knew that today was your last day here on this Earth, in this world, what would you do? -Would you be content with the way you lived your life or not? What could you say you've done with your life? What did you accomplish? -Did you bring joy to someone else? Did you invent something useful? Tell me. The choice to live a good life that you could look back on in your last few moments on this Earth & say, "I did alright with my life. I'm proud of my time spent here," it starts NOW.
