Dear Public,

You’ve painted this horrific picture of my brothers and me,
While you demand we stay quiet.
Our very lives at stake every night and day.
Where our actions are called into play.
While few of you would gladly take our place.

Not for fame or fortune did we sign up.
Not to prove we’re just that tough.
To stand and be able to say,
There has to be a better way.

Behind this badge you’ll see,
The imperfect human I aim to be.
The flawed soul holding back tears.
For I am trained to calm fears.

Yet few look beyond my uniform and badge.
To see the human being that I am.
When terror knocks at your door…
When you’re frightened and alone.
That’s when we answer the call once more.

We don’t want to die for you,
We’d much rather enjoy our lives too.
Without those willing to take a stand.
Chaos would wreak havoc across our land.

Our lives we’ve pledged to duty and honor
A cut above the rest.
Sometimes we’re scared to death.
Because the image painted of us,
Says we’re the best…
