I just finished watching "Woodlawn"; a movie based on true events that took place in the 70s.

The synopsis:
Following government-mandated desegregation in 1973, Tony Nathan joins fellow African-American students at Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Alabama.

As violence and anger erupt in the city, Woodland coach Tandy Gerelds allows an outsider to speak to his players. His message of hope and love leads to a spiritual awakening that inspires star athlete; Nathan, his teammates and other members of the community to overcome the hate that surrounds them.

It is a good movie. I totally recommend it. Go watch it.
The movie also reminded me of a story I read once upon a time ago about a young butterfly who had her wings plucked from her.

She was misunderstood. No one wanted to see the beauty she was born with. She tries hard to be accepted and loved by others. But she was made to stand out, when the rest were made to fit in.

She would look to the sky at the ones who had punished her take flight with grace and determination to outshine the Sun raining down on the earth below. She never gave up. She continued on despite the fact she had been handicapped by the ones she thought would always be there for her.

A few years passed and out of nowhere, she began to grow a new set of wings. She moved on from the rest of the pack and started to enjoy the things she became accustomed to. Unsure of how or why she was given her wings, she was determined to make full and good use of the gift that was given to her.

Little by little, she grew into her wings. The roses and dandelions were envious and jealous of the bright and beautiful colors of her wings. And they were not at all shy to let their feelings be known.

Every day, each time they see her flying around, they would mock her and call her names. Instead of retaliating, she decided to make friends with them. Instead of being arrogant and big headed, she was warm and humble in her approach. She shows them hope by flying to each rose and each dandelion to formally introduce herself. And this was her introduction.

"I have been misunderstood all my life. My wings were plucked from me. Not my choice. It was out of mycontrol. I had zero say in it. Can you imagine how naked I felt without my wings? To be laughed at, treated like a freak from some freakshow... do you have any idea how humiliating that feels? How small I feel? How insignificant? How lonely and alone? ....
Then miracle happened. I was given the most precious gift I could ever ask for. My wings. These wings represent a second chance for me. That gives me hope."

All the roses and the dandelions were in awe of her. For the very first time, they see her. They see her true beauty and they see her wisdom.

Through her, they now know love comes from everything that is willing to love without things others take for granted. And now they also know perseverance can turn a struggle into victory. She showed them that. She is their living proof that all things are created to be recognized for what they are.

The young butterfly has had it tough. She had gone through days where she would weep and cry because she had no wings to catch the breeze. She would sit on the flower petals and listen to the birds sing. She can't really see them high up in the sky, but she can hear them. The tone was pleasing to her ears. The sound wasn't loud or chaotic. It was a beautiful arrangement. She heard the build up and determination in the birds' song. She recognized it. She noticed the aura and the light around it. She felt the vibe.

She understood then that one doesn't have to be seen to be heard and admired.
She knew then what she's supposed to do. She's all in.

Moral of the story?
A single butterfly changed the world. And in doing so, changed the way they now fly.

............ get it?

In case you lost the plot.....
