{My work posted elsewhere but I wanted to share with you guys!}

I walked along the road that went straight for miles. I've always loved this road. It has a winding going downhill once you've reached the end. Even the intersection looks deserted after dark because the road is so dangerous.

The morning sun was naked against everything, taking away that winter breeze's invading personality. God, why couldn't I grab that heavier coat.

As I reached to rub my Rudolph nose there was a shimmering object caught the side view of my right eye. Curious little me, I took a detour and knelt down. It was a wrapper, that was obvious once I wiped the snow off of it. I picked it up, still squatting, and gave a soft smile as I realized where I stood.

"I remember this," I said out loud. This was where they found you. One year ago today. Two days away from the glorious day of Christ Mass. I shake my head as the feeling of electrical pulses ached on the edge of my nose and warmed my cheeks. Showing the rage in my eyes but holding back the tears.

I would be letting icicles out of my eyes if I let them go past.

Your body was cold. Not because you were gone but because you were laying under two feet of snow and your candy bar shined just above the surface.

"Snickers," I read out loud as I looked at the wrapper. That's insane. A whole year later and the same candy wrapper grabbing attention. In this very place.

As I stood I shoved the wrapper in my jacket and pushed my hair back and continued my walk down the long, straight road. It's a shame I couldn't hide my first body in time. I've learned my lesson since that day. Don't you worry.

I caressed the wrapper with my thumb and with my left hand I stuck my thumb up for a car approaching behind me. The sound of his brakes squeaking as he slowly stopped beside me almost made me say never mind. But something about the way he looked at me.

"Where ya headed?" He smiled, but his smile was tired.

As I mentioned where I needed to go, he stared at my chest and I knew he was perfect. Sliding into the passenger seat, the man began to tell me about his divorce and I grinned in my seat.

A Snickers bar delivered by my first victim in the afterlife. It couldn't be more perfect.
