Dance With My Father Read Count : 200

Dad and I had plans. We had both gone through so much over the years together. He was always there for me – no questions – no hidden agendas – just as grounded and reliable as a mountain. I never realized how awesome a man he was until he was taken away from me. Has there ever been someone in your corner that just never gave up on you? He was like that.

My daddy was a planner. He always had another idea and another project. I asked him one day after watching a movie about a father and son building a boat together if we could do that, just he and I. He quickly agreed and one day, after he found an old boat, he bought it for almost nothing and drew up plans for us to begin. When I told him about Shelly, a girl I was interested in, his happiness was almost a match of my own. Again he made plans. He found ways to get her and I together and he did it because he loved me.

He never gave up on me. He labored in my life with a will and consistent passion. I can’t count the times he laid a belt across my backside trying to instill principles and discipline me. We worked on cars, he used to take me to work with him, he taught me how to water-ski, and fish, he did so much trying to reach me. He was an incredible father and the give and take; the way he bent and moved, every moment of time he spent was a wonder only he could have danced into my life. I look back on it now and can only thank God I had him in my life.

I will never forget you, Dad. You are still my hero.
