Sometime around Christmas, I remember watching a movie called "Kirstin's Christmas Past". The movie was about a 34 year old woman named Kirstin who was sent back to the past; back to when she was a 17 year old rebellious teenager. She initially thought this backtrack time travel was to give her the chance to change her past, only to learn it was more of an eye-opener on ways she can rectify her present so she can have a happier future.

The way the movie was done, how she, as the 34 year old woman was transported back in time to meet her 17 year old self and having to relive all the things she had done as the typical teenager, was brilliant. She was back at her parents' house, in her old room and face to face with her young self. A flood of memories came back to her as she walked through the house seeing familiar things and smelling the familiar aroma of her mother's cooking. Thing is, even though she was visibly there, no one was able to see her except her teenaged self.

Everything that she had done at 17 was played out right before her eyes. She watched how she had the attitude of a "Miss-Know-It-All" going against her parents, dating the older, notorious bad boy and getting her heart broken, and she also watched how she had deliberately defied her parents by being difficult and stubborn. Looking back at her bad attitude, bad behavior and bad choices, she was horrified at herself. As the older and wiser woman she is today who knew then exactly where and what went wrong in her younger life which had led to the estrangement between her and her parents, she tried to give her younger self some sound advice. But of course, her younger self wouldn't listen and went ahead to do everything that was wrong. She realized then that she was reliving history; her history, and it wasn't something she can change. It was a sweet and moving story which later on got me thinking.

Supposing you are approached by a Film company, letting you know that they are making a movie about you, your life, and what you stand for, and all they need from you is the soundtrack that describes you perfectly, how would you respond? If someone wanted to get to know you better, instead of spending three hours going on and on about your life, you could maybe cut it short and make it more interesting by saying, "Hello, my name is so and so. If you want to know about me, listen to Canned Heat by Jamiroquai", for example. Know what I'm saying?

So, my question to all of you tonight is this.... What is your life anthem; the song that represents you, your life, and everything that you stand for? Give it a thought and hit me up in the comments. I would love to hear from you and get to know you all better.

  • Hi Zee, For a Life Anthem I choose, "I Wanna Know What Love Is" Not just with a girl, though the song is pretty much geared towards that, but in all its aspects, love of family, friends, Co-workers, how to let love be the center of my interaction with everything I do
