Its a rainy gloomy day. I am doing my morning run heading out of town towards the woods.

The smell of wet soil and leaves are distinct in the air as I near the woods. I feel energized and alive as the endorphins are realised in my body.

Up ahead something catches my eye in the undergrowth. I slow down and to my amazement I see it is a gasmask. 'What the hell is this doing here' I think to myself.

Suddenly I hear a sirene going off, like one of those air raid alarms from WW2. Followed by a small expIosion. I realise it is coming from town.

'The Chemical facility' is the first though that runs through my mind.

The Chemical facility have been there for years do they even have a alarm. 'What can it be?' I wonder.

What do I do? Go back... run away...

I hear people coming towards me. I see a big crowd coming down the dirt road. Every single person has a gasmask on. 'What the hell'

Behind me a man came running out of the bushes. Wild and bewildered he came to a standstill. He haven't got a gasmask on...

We look at the gasmask.... and then at each other....

Five years later and I am jogging on the same road again. Memory of that day is still vivid. 193 people died due to the toxic gas that was realised due to a small explosion.

The trees have never recovered from the toxic gas. Bearing no leaves since that day.

Leaving a grim reminder of the day I won the fight for my life
