Life was going on in a daily monotone, the constant chugging of the train on the rail beside me, the snippets of casual conversation. I was just sitting down on an available chair, reading To Kill A Mockingbird, when I met you. A light 'slam' sounded as my book fell on the white marble floor. I was just about to pick it up until you came. I remember the way your skirt flew in the wind, a splash of colour surrounding you. I remember how you smiled when you gave me back my book. "Harper Lee, a good author, isn't she?" was what you said with a smile. It's strange that I couldn't reply when all I wanted to do at that moment was initiate conversation. I guess it was because you played my part, or maybe it was because the butterfly that settled itself on your shoulder, the thief of bravery that descended from the vast blue sky, got me thinking of how a living canvas felt so dull against you. I didn't know what you liked, what you did. Not even your name. But it felt like I had already fell in love with you. I decided that taking a cab was a better option, in too much of a daze to realize that the train was right in front of me. Throwing my ticket into the dustbin without so much of a second thought, I decided that I wasn't going to go to the hall after all. Screw that weekend lecture. Yes, I remember I met you on a Saturday, March 21st. And I remember too how much I regretted not initiating conversation in the end. Look at fate. I met you again when I was waiting for a cab. I was too internally elated to ask what you were doing waiting for a cab when you were at the train station. But then again, I was here without particular reasons too. You smiled and stated the coincidence. I laughed along. You asked me how I was liking my book. After my brief answer, she held her hand out. "Mackenzie." I shook it. Your grip was firm, almost strong. "Ryan. Pleasure to meet you." You laughed and asked me why the formalities when we met two minutes ago. I didn't mention how pretty you looked with a laugh, did I? Because the whole world appeared dull at the moment.
