I want my poems to be the hands that lift sad little girls and boys up and throw them high into the sweat sky. I want them to be the handkerchief that dries auntie's tears every time she cries. I want them to be a stage on which lesbians and gays can freely stand, and a tree of knowledge and understanding that the unlearned ones can easily climb and pick fruits from. Although for me they're nothing but a catharsis, I hope they will aid someone else who's emotionally lethargic. I want my poems to conceive more Maries so we might be gifted with more Jesusies; That way the saviour's race could easily be varied, And there wouldn't have to be a conflict over what colour Jesus Christ is. I want my poems to be the mouthpieces through which Malcolm and Garvey speak; Yes, I want to evoke the voices that once chased out paralysis from the souls of our people's feet. And, every time I open up my mouth wide, to do distribute a poem, I want to imbue hope in a hopeless child. To the black one, I wanna apportion precision and vision; To the white one, influence and moral ambition; And to the native American, a native America. I don't want my poems to save souls; No, I want them to change lives. I want them build up unity and teardown strife. I want them to influence a new glance at world peace and, maybe, give humanity a new stance on humanity. That includes changing the ways in which we estol boys and mistreat girls, And ensuring that all people are wealthy by creating and sustaining a free world. I want my poems to shine bright in every black night.
