The sun goes down
The moon goes up
We walk along this baren beach
Leaving footprints in our wake
And hand in hand we leave for home
For a good nights rest

The sun goes up
The moon goes down
The waves come rolling in
Washing over the footprints left upon the sand
Then they roll back out to sea

It's mid-day when we return
As we walk once again over this long beach
Though crowded this time with people and joy
We look down to the sand to try and find our footprints
Only to find they've disappeared
Gone away with the tide

Decades later the sun goes down
The moon goes up
The couple lay upon their bed
They look outside their window
Out onto the glowing water
And with the tide they take their last breaths
Closing their eyes for the last time
They leave with their beloved sea

When the sun came up
And the moon went down
Their family went to the house
To find nothing but empty clothes
It was almost like the footprints
That disappeared so many years ago
