"Welcome to your new home!" Alex's mother, Katherine, had exclaimed, looking down at her daughter. Alex simply nodded; her mind was elsewhere.

"Well, I guess I'll leave you two alone, I need to go to work," her father said, glancing down at his watch. It was 10:00 AM. He had gotten permission to go to work later than he usually would so that he could help with the moving.

"Okay, daddy," Alex murmured. Her mother waved. "Goodbye, then, honey. I'll see you soon."

Her father then turned and walked out the door.

"Now, Alex honey, why don't you go on upstairs and go into your new room?" Katherine looked down at Alex. Her voice was bitter.

Alex didn't complain. She quickly went upstairs without hesitation. She then went into her room and carefully shut the door behind her. She walked over to a blanket on the floor-her new bed-atleast, she hoped, until they decided to get her an actual bed. Or atleast an air matress.

She sat down on it and looked up at the ceiling. The color was fading. Bits of color had peeled off. She looked over at the windows. Dirty. Red, tattered curtains hung uselessly at the sides, sunlight going into the room in broken streaks. She looked at the wallpaper. It glistened in the sunlight. Somehow, that was the best looking thing about the room.

She looked at the light switch, which was covered by duct tape. She couldn't turn on the light in her room. The only light coming in was the kind of light that she had no control over. With a sigh, she laid down and looked up at the ceiling. The red light that was casted on it was rather mesmerizing to her.

She closed her eyes and went to sleep, allowing herself to finally relax.

A few hours later

Alex woke up to her mother's voice booming across the halls. "ALEX! COME DOWN HERE RIGHT NOW!!"

Alex groaned and got up, steadying herself by placing her hand against the wall. She then shook her head.

"ALEX!!!"

Alex quickly stumbled out into the hall. She went downstairs and called out, "MOM?"

She found her mother on the couch, holding something in her hand. "What the f*ck did I tell you about messing with my god*amn things?"

Alex bit her lip as her mother craned her neck to look at her.

"What did I tell you?"

"D-don't mess with anything that belongs to you," she replied, quickly letting go of her lip.

Alex's eyes were fixed upon the item that shone dully in her mother's grip.

"Now tell me, why the F*CK did I find my dead mother's favorite VASE on the f*cking FLOOR?!" She growled and suddenly threw the item at Alex.

Before Alex's brain could comprehend what was going on, she felt something hit her forehead. She felt something warm slowly trickling down her forehead over her nose, over her lips, and dripping down her chin. She then felt herself hit something cold and solid. Her vision went fuzzy.

Just a normal day at the Miller's.
