Store Bought Shame

Today was an interesting day due to the fact that I went to get ice from a nearby Dollar General. This sounds like a trivial task, though upon arrival, I noticed three workers outside at the same time smoking by the entrance. This in itself represents a problem due to the fact they were close to the entrance. This is illegal in Illinois and many other states. They represented shame as they smoked outside the entrance instead of tending to their duties inside. As I entered the store, no one was manning the register, no one was helping disgruntled customers, and no one was there to stock their shelves. All of them were outside smoking. I am a nonsmoker, however, I try to be an understanding person. But, their behaviour represented one of the most disrespectful sights it pains me to see. Though I waited only a few minutes, the lack of supervision in the store could lead to greater problems down the line. The cashier did apologize, but it was not sincere enough to make redemption. A customer should not wait for a cashier, who is not at their post tending to their duties. All I saw was laziness, a growing illness that plagues our homeland.
