PROLOGUE You sit on the ground in a place you do not know. Your head is aching as you open your eyes to see swimming images of what surrounds you. There is what looks like a light that is so blinding you cannot distinguish your surroundings. As your eyes adjust you notice that you are in a place that is only white. There is no way to differentiate between what is wall, what is floor, and what is ceiling, if there is a ceiling. It is as if you are placed in an endless void of white. The only reason you can tell that you are sitting is because you can look down at your body, see that your legs are bent at the knee and your feet are beneath you. There is also something behind you, you are resting your back upon it. You turn slightly to see if anything is behind you, but again all you see is white. You begin to see dark specks in the corners of your vision, as if your mind is trying to fill the blank void with something other than white. You close your eyes to try to stop the pain that the vastness of white is causing you. As you do you also notice that there is no sound to be heard either. This room, or existence, or whatever it is that you are in is depriving you of all senses. With your eyes closed you try to feel your surroundings. You know that there is a floor because you are sitting on it, and you know that there is a wall of some sort because you were just resting on it. You are now standing with one hand placed on the wall that you know is there, but can not be seen. You begin to walk to your right, or what you think is your right and try to follow the wall. You walk about 20 steps before you run into another wall. You stand still for a moment trying to decide what to do next. You open your eyes once more to see if there has been any changes. For the second time you are blinded by light. Nothing has changed. You sigh, but find you cannot hear yourself. You find the corner of the room with your hand just to make sure it is real. You decide that you are in some sort of room, but what kind of room is this white, so white you can’t even tell what is floor and what is wall. You next try to reach up to see if you can touch a ceiling; you can’t. Now what should you do? Should you continue following the wall? Should you stay in this corner and wait for something to happen; to die? As you think of the possibilities something new happens. Your stomach and back begin to throb in agony. You double over and curl into the corner you found sobbing but making no sound. Something is wrong, why are you in such agony? Why are you coughing now? Was that blood that just splattered over the impossibly white floor? As you convulse in your corner begging for death in all your pain you finally see something different in the void of white before you. There was an outline on what you assume is another wall. It was just an outline in black, it looked like it might be a door. It seems to move out into another place, then slide to the left and out of sight. The hole the door left showed another room, but it was not the blinding white of your room, it was dark, and there seemed to be a red light that lined what you assume to be a hallway. Your eyes widen in fear as you see something come into view of the doorway from the right. It was strange, the shadow that now filled the doorway. It is not standing on the floor, or at least you don’t think it is, you can’t see any feet, but the outside hallway is very dark and poorly lit, so they might be shrouded in darkness. From what you can see, it doesn’t have arms, the limbs coming from what could only be called shoulders looked like the wings you may see on a manta ray. The thing stayed in the darkness of the doorway for a minute before it came in. The being was much more terrifying in the light. Its face was rounded. Its eyes set small and beady in the round head were mean looking, as if you were looking into the eyes of the snake. The mouth stretched across the entire face to where you could not see the corners that marked the end. It had no nose, and no lips, and the skin that was covering the horrific face seemed thin and oddly stretched, as if there was not enough to cover it. The creature also seemed to be wearing a hood that covered the rest of its body so you could not see what other horrors this creature may hold. The pain that was slightly settled when first the creature showed itself now came back with a vengeance. You were again coughing up blood and shuddering in agony. You had closed your eyes so you did not see the creature come towards you. The first thing you felt was a sharp stab into your arm. This shock forced your eyes open and the thing was directly in front of you. Its evil face only inches from yours. You could see into its snake like eyes, they were red with slitted pupils. The mouth of the thing was slightly opened to show two rows of razor sharp needle like teeth. When you glance away from the face you notice that the cloak had slipped just enough to see what lay within. There was a body that had the same thin and stretched skin of the face, other than that the torso had nothing more to offer, it was completely void of hair and nipples and a belly button as well. Attached to this torso was two very spindly arms that ended in hands that had four long thin fingers. And connected to the back were the long manta ray wings you had seen outlined in the doorway. When you finally look down at your arm you see that there is a syringe where you felt the sharp pain moments before. There was no longer any liquid in the syringe. You are instantly terrified of what the thing might have put into your body. Did it inject you with poison? Would it be a quick death or something more dreadful? As you are thinking these things the pain in your back and stomach begin to subside. You are able to stop convulsing, and you stop coughing as well. The creature then stood back as if to give you some space, then it sat down across from you and injected itself with a syringe that contained blue liquid. It sighed like it was relieved and again turned its eyes to you. Then it began to speak….. THE BEGINNING "I've done it, I have managed to rid this planet of the atrocious virus that has plagued it for many thousands of years. Well almost. You see, you are the last of the virus still alive, and I wanted to tell my story before both you and I become extinct." "But perhaps you, don't understand the context of the great achievement I have accomplished. But I beg you to pay attention, I know it's a difficult at the moment, you're exhausted and will soon slip into unconsciousness, but this story is of vital importance." "Good, well then, why don't I just tell you the tale of both how the virus came to be, and how I was created to solely exterminate the plague. But be warned this is a very long tale that has many twists and turns, so I will check in on you from time to time." "Let's begin with the origins of my creators. These beings come from a planet they call Irhoud. This planet is located along a distant arm of a galaxy that you call Andromeda. Irhoud was created a few million years before your Solar System's star began to form, and is two times larger than your planet. Irhoud was created in many of the same ways your planet was formed. It consisted of a large iron core surrounded by a mantle that is made of molten rock called magma, and finally is encased by a relatively thin crust. My creators, like you, lived and thrived on the solid crust for many millennium, achieving many great strides in advanced technology. This technology was so advanced that it would seem impossible, or like what you would call 'magic'. Needless to say this technology was most helpful when their stargazers, or 'astrologers' discovered that their mother star only had a few more thousands of years to live. My creators knew that they didn't have much time to find a way to save their species. This is why they created a craft that could take them out of the blast zone that would come from their mother stars supernova, and out into the vastness of space to hopefully find another place they could learn to call home." "Though their technology was highly advanced it was still many millions of years before the Jebel came upon your solar system. Jebel was the name my creators came up with to identify themselves. When they first arrived past the Kypher Belt, the edge of your solar system, they were not hopeful that any planet in this far stretch of a galaxy would ever supply life. They were wrong of course, but you must understand that they had searched many other solar systems and come up empty. Once they arrived they realized that one of the smaller rocky planets orbiting fairly close to the star already had primitive life evolving into more complex creatures." "Upon observing your planet and the creatures that inhabited it, the Jebel concluded that the creatures would not be helpful on their quest for resources, and soon after they found that they could not physically live on the planet with its current chemical make-up." "In light of this information the Jebels had to come up with a plan to rid the planet you now call Earth of the giant creatures that ruled the land and sea. The creatures I speak of is what you have decided to call dinosaurs." "The Jebel debated for many years before a plan, and a way to carry out said plan came along. This idea came in the form of an exceptionally large asteroid, which was around ten kilometers across. It had been flung from the Asteroid Belt toward the general direction of the Earth by the gravity of the immensely larger planet you named Jupiter. Upon calculating the trajectory however, they saw that it would not hit your planet. So, they had to push the large space rock in the right direction. And so, with a small craft they nudged the asteroid just enough so that it would for sure hit the Earth." "Now, I know what you're thinking: this strange being is completely out of its mind; there's no way aliens caused the impact that wiped out your precious dinosaurs! But believe you me, that is the truth. Besides if my creators wanted to mine your planet's resources they would have to take out the alpha monsters so that they could create an intelligent species." "After the Jebel coerced the asteroid it was only fifteen years before the rock smashed into the Earth and created a line of events that caused the dinosaurs to perish." "The damage done to the planet was a bit more extensive than they had anticipated. The debris from the impact blanketed the Earth in ash and dust hiding every part of the planet that had once been visible. The debris stayed in the atmosphere for many, many years before it cleared and the Jebel could begin their work on your planet." "When the ash had finally cleared and the Jebel had retested the atmosphere, they found that the planet was habitable, but that the planet was now suffering from another catastrophe. It was now in an era you called the Ice Age. The freezing of the Earth posed another problem for my creators, because you see, even though the planet was habitable, all the years that the Jebel spent searching and waiting for the Earth to recover rendered them incapable of physically making the planet their own. So, they had to wait for a semi-intelligent creature to evolve, and because of the Ice Age the life still surviving on the surface was put on a kind of evolutionary stand still." "My creators had to wait about fifty-eight million years for such a creature to evolve, and even then the creature was still not intelligent enough for the Jebel to use. So, they decided to genetically modify the fauna on the planet, or at least the desired species, the ape, to fit their needs." SPLICING "Now I know my tale thus far must seem far fetched and perhaps completely insane, but from here what I am going to tell you is, at least, basically known by your species. It is true that your species has learned much in the way of science and technology, but your advances cannot hold a candle to what my creators were capable of. I believe your species has always been obsessed with figuring out your origins, and your men of science were correct in their theory of your evolution from the apes, however they never discovered your true creation." "This part of my story is about an ancient creature the Jebel deemed appropriate for their plans, but first they had to enhance the creature to suit their needs. A small craft was sent from the Jebel’s, well for lack of a better term, Mother Ship to take one male and one female from the Earth and transport them to their lab to begin their modifications." "The creatures were ugly and quite barbaric when first my creators set their eyes upon the apes. The apes were frightened by the Jebel, and did not go willingly onto the ship, and therefore had to be placed in a coma like sleep to prevent damage to themselves or my creators, for though they didn't look it, the creatures were very strong." "The apes were around what you would call hobbit sized with extra long arms that reached almost to the ground. They were almost completely covered in dark fur, and their skin was a medium dark tan color. Their small dark eyes seemed to sink into their skulls because of the pronounced forehead, the nose was rather small and the mouth rather large with enormous teeth. They did have opposable thumbs on both hands and feet, and did not yet stand up right." "Unfortunately when the scouts reached the Mother Ship they had to put the beasts into a more or less permanent coma due to the dangers their strength created for the Jebel. They were placed in an incubator type device that provided the vital nutrients the apes would need to survive. The incubator also acted as a sort of cage for the apes if they were to ever awake from the induced coma." "My creators started with a simple DNA sample of the creatures to see what traits they had, and the possible potential they held. The apes were nearly perfect. Their brain size was adequate, however lacked the proper proportions of the brain to be subservient and obedient to my creators. This was the first aspect of the creature the Jebel modified. They gifted the ape with remedial speech capabilities, concepts of deduction and reasoning, and an inherent need to be ruled." "Why are you smirking? This is the truth virus, even if your tiny mind can't comprehend the concepts I am speaking of. You may see this as science fiction, however it is only because your species has not yet discovered enough of the genome to change characteristics of the mind and the sculpt the entire thought process into a completely obedient being." "To continue, after my creators changed the brain of the ape they began their work on the physical characteristics of the ape. Now that may not seem important, however, the Jebel wanted to make sure their slaves wouldn't be able to overthrow their reign. So, they modified the arms to make them shorter in proportion to the body and in contrast lengthened the length of the legs, made sure they could stand erect, lessened the amount of muscle growth, and removed the opposable thumb on the foot of the ape. They also shrinked the size of the teeth and forehead, as well as gave the ability to differentiate colors. This ability was needed so that my creators could trust that the resources they were getting from the beasts labor was the proper minerals and stones that they would need for their departure from this world.” “When all of the Jebel’s research and experimentation was complete they slightly changed the genome again so that the creatures would not have genes so similar that they would be subject to problems that can come with incest. My creators bred around 1,000 of the creatures 500 males and 500 females, then placed them back on their own planet in different areas so that they could mine from many different areas on Earth.” “The Jebel placed small groups of the creatures in what you now call Europe, China, North America, South America, and Africa, and they placed creatures in different places in these continents for maximum coverage.” “And now, once again my creators had to wait many years until they could start their mining process. They had to wait for the small colonies to grow and populate their selective areas until they had enough specimens to really be of use to the Jebel. But strange things happened in those years that the Jebel had to wait. The beings adapted to their appropriate areas in different ways. Each colony had created slightly different language and dialects, and their physical appearance also changed with the areas they lived and bred in. The colonies near the southern hemisphere mutated to have darker skin than those of the colonies in the northern hemisphere. The Jebel credited this to the different climates and the amount of foliage and sun intake each colony had. Some colonies had different muscle builds and bone structures than others. However, each colony was similar in the fact that they had chosen a leader to rule them, whether the leader took the position by force or was chosen because he had strengths others did not, it did not matter.”
