I am standing on the threshold of my fears. I know the answer to the age old joke. Why did the chicken cross the road? Simply, to experience life. My entire life has been spent on one side of a road I never had the courage to cross. Beyond this river of asphalt lies a whole unexplored world I can only imagine. Now, tired of the stale monotony I cling to for safety, I choose to try. I muster the little courage I have and lay foot to the street. One by one, I place one foot in front of the other. I feel as if my body is pulling against some invisible resistance. It is light at first, but as I get futher into the road, the pull gets stronger. It takes, what seems an hour, to get to the middle. The strain from the resistance brings me to my knees. As I reach the yellow lines, all I could do is crawl to move forward. Scrapping my palms and knees, I force myself to inch to the other side. My knees long for the comfort of the grass I see before me. Ever inch closer seems still too far away. I fear I will never make it. Many times, I reach out and try to grasp at the grass blades to come up with nothing. On my belly now, scrapping my whole body, I endure and drag on. My sight is blurry and pain riddles my entire self. I barely have a sense of reality, when one more reach, and I feel the soft plant life beneath my hand. Suddenly, all the restistance washes from me. Like chains broken, I feel set free, and have strength to stand. On my feet, I feel excitement's electricity pulse through me. I lift one foot over towards the grassy edge of the other side, then a speeding car slams into me, sending my body flying over it. The vehicle leaves my broken and twisted body on the road behind it. My last thoughts as I die are, I almost made it, almost.
