Chapter 2: Origin “Hope,” it calls out again. I run away into the woods. I climbed a tree so fast, I didn’t know I was in it. I began to feel Powerful. I felt the urge to feast as well. I needed blood. I smelled the blood from things I didn’t know exist. And I was craving it. But I had to control myself. The hunger woke me up. I wake up and head downstairs. Eating from left to right. I couldn’t get it. I decided to go outside. I open the back door and run to the woods. I saw a squirrel. I needed something to eat and fast. So I Feast on its flesh for blood. I didn’t know what was wrong with me. Roman never had bite me anywhere. I felt disgusting, but it felt amazing. I did some research about what was wrong with me. I couldn’t find anything, it keep talking about family history. And I didn’t know mines, so I got the book. Nothing. I just go in the bathroom and wash my face. I got back in the bed and went just decided to lay there. Jessica offered to take me to school now. I don’t mind. I wait for her by the door. “Jessica’s taking you,” she asked. “Yeah, since you gotta go to work and all,” I say. “That’s great,” she gives me a goodbye kiss on the cheek and off she goes to work. A car horn goes off, and I head outside. Pg. 10 “Hey, bestie,” she grins. She takes her stuff from the passenger seat and place it In the back. I wave holding my cardigan over my scar. “Alright.” She hops in the truck and we drove off. We arrive at school. “Have you ever been to a school dance, we have one every year, then it’s prom.” “you can wait for me if you like, I’ll be out soon,” and she went on and on. I love her but she’s a talking time bomb. I turn and roll my eyes and laugh. I spot Roman sitting on the school sign. He waves to me after placing a cigarette in his mouth. I gently smile to let him know I saw him and turn around to grab my bag. “So you coming,” she says. “What,” I laughed. “To the dance, it’s in two weeks,” she says. “Maybe.” I turn around to walk to class. I sit down, and unpack my books And place it on the desk. Ollie walked me to class with Jessica, I met him online. And no it wasn’t a dating app. “Good morning everyone,” Mr. Allen says with a big grin on his face, running his fingers through his uncombed hair. “Well, do a quick attendance and be on our merry way.” He goes down a roster of the class names. He looks around, and shakes his head. I know who he was shaking his head to. “His here,” a voice says two seats behind me. I turn around to see Ollie. “I don’t see him,” Mr. Allen says. Then Roman walks to the door. All the girls stare. I’m guessing his the hot boy next door, at this school. Roman sits in the same row as Ollie, but on the end by the window. He gives me a smile as he walks by. “Yes, I’m here, sir,” Roman faked a grind. “Great, So lets get on with the class,” Mr. Allen says. I turn around to see how far he was from me. I could tell Ollie and him are very close friends, they joke around with each other a lot. I see them throw things at each other and flick each other off. I shake my head and laugh. Pg. 11 “Are we throwing things in my class, mr. Irving ?” “Wouldn’t dream of it sir,” he smiles. “We going have much fun this year,” Jessica says staring at Ollie. I smile. maybe, I thought to myself. “Mr. Allen can I go to the bathroom,” a girl asked. She gives Roman a look as she was trying to sex him. She turns around and rubs her legs slowly trying to get romans attention. I found disgusting. “Yes, grab a pass,” he says. She gets up and struts with a short pink mini skirt and a red shoulder shirt. I looked how Roman looked at her. I think he feeds on sexual interactions. He looked hungry, and horny. He waited 5 minutes on the dot. “Can I go to the bathroom,” he asked. I just watched. “Yes Roman, grab a pass,” he says with a sigh. There he goes focus on his prey. He comes back a couple minutes later, wiping his mouth with a paper towel, I knew what he did. I spot blood on his chin. And grab his arm as he walks by. “Your chin,” I say. He looks at me. And continued walking. I just was trying to help. I turn around. Roman shows me a mark I gave him from grabbing him, he laughs. I turn around, shocked at myself. I never new I gripped him that hard. I get this unspeakable urge, as if I had to through up. I felt sick. Pg. 12 “Can I go to the bathroom,” I asked. “Lord, go head your the last one until lunch is over,” Mr. Allen sighed. “Speaking of bathroom, where’s miss hart,” he asked. “Do you know Roman,” he asked. “I didn’t see her in the hallway,” Roman said. “Hm.” I hopped out the chair causes it to slide hard on someone desk behind me. I just get up and go, I run to the bathroom. I run to first stall I see. I find the girl dead, sitting in the toilet clothes half way off. “Shit.” I say. I slowly close the stall door. I felt bad. I mean you shouldn’t be hoeing around, but she didn’t deserve to be killed, and left like this. As a vampire I understand, whatever it takes to feed. However, me being a human it was sad. I look in the mirror. “Dad, what’s wrong with me,” I say to my reflection, as I throw up blood. I see my arm from the marked from the dream, healed up like nothing was there. I just started crying. I felt helpless. And alone. I waited until I felt better. I throw water on my face, as if this was all a dream and I’ll wake up. I walk out, feeling a bit normal again, Pg. 13 The bell rings and class is over. I grab my stuff and leave the class quickly. “Hope, wait what’s wrong,” Jessica asked. “Nothing, just can you take me home,” I asked. “Okay- “I’ll take her home,” Roman walks up behind me. “No, I’m going with Jessica, thanks but no thanks,” I said irritated. “Can we have a minute,” he grabs me. Jessica just nods in shock and walks to the car. I’m guessing he never talked to her before. “What Roman,” I say. “What’s your problem,” he says. “I’ll tell you later,” I say. “Well, you can tell me in the car,” he demanded. I just was upset and angry, I crossed my arms and got in the car. I saw him talk to Jessica and walk over here to me, and gets in the car. “What’s going on, your kinda a shocker strong arms,” he jokes. “Somethings wrong with me,” I sat scared looking at my arm in disbelief. “No, nothing’s wrong with you,” he laughs. “Did you bite me ?” “No, I never do it, without your permission, would you let me,” he asked trying not to piss me off. “No, Roman I’m serious,” I said. “Look you would’ve felt me do it, if I did,” he said. I knew only one person could help me. “Can I talk to your mother,” I asked. “What, why,” he said. “I know she’s just like you, she could help me figure out whats wrong with me,” I explained. “No, she can’t she’s the opposite of a good person,” he said. “Roman, please, I need to,” I said. “Fine.” He takes a sharp turn around to his house. We arrive to talk to his mother. “She’s like me , but she’s a demon, you can only be around her with me, Okay ?,” he says. “Okay.” We go inside the house. “Oh, dear nice to see you again,” she says. How can someone so beautiful be a monster. “I need help to figure out, what’s wrong with me,” I tell her. I tell her my condition. My abilities, myself healing, my thirst of blood, etc. it didn’t occur to me what was going on until I said it out loud. “She smiles, your a vampire my dear, how could you not know,” she says. My mom is human, how can a I be. “What about your father ?,” she asked. “His dead. He died over a year ago, he was murdered, that’s why we came here. He grew up here,” I say. “Fathers name ?,” she asked. “Abraham Moore,” I tell her. She repeats the name over and over and goes downstairs and grabs a book. We follow. She places it on the table. It look a hundred years old. She opens the book and flips through pages. She showed me my father. He was a vampire. I never knew. Maybe I should have paid attention, there were multiple signs. “He was a vampire, meaning your a half-breed,” she explains. “Your a Dhampir,” Roman mumbled. “What’s that,” I asked. “Your a offspring of one human and one vampire parent. Your not a vampire yourselves but a half-breed,” She says. This is my origin. I’m never knew this and I feel as my whole life was a lie. she takes the book back. “That explains what’s happening,” I say. “Well now you know, I gotta take her home now,” he says. We head to the car. “Look, she’ll kill you, she is nothing but a demon, knowing your a half-breed she’ll wanna eat you. “ he tells me. “She will try to eat you, she’ll eat her own kind,” he warns me. I just listen and nodded. “And why hasn’t she ate you, while he was talking my mouth tasted bitter. It was dry and thirsty. I needed blood. “Roman, I’m hungry,” I say. “Well, just stop at a- “No, I’m hungry,” I say. “Oh, you mean for blood,” he says. “We can go to this place, I go here all the time. We ride to a warehouse. “We’re going to have to sneak in,” he picks me up to get me through the window. He jumps in after me. We walk around the hallways, searching for the room. We hear a guard, maybe about two rooms away. He grabs my hand and we run to the next room. “Look up,” he said smiling. I look up to see packets of blood like in a hospital. I never felt like this before, I wanted to devour it. It was full of blood hanging from the ceiling. I grab one. I was nervous, I never did this before besides the squirrel. I look at him. “Are you gonna eat it, or I’ll do it for you, he says eating packet after packet. I rip it open, drinking it. I tasted sweet, but then a bitter aftertaste. I soon join in with Roman. We soon we’re drenched in blood lying in blood packet. Pg. 14 We were playing and we both fell, wallowing and clutching at each other, laughing like giddy grade-schoolers. we were close. I propped myself up on one elbow and noticed that Roman had gone quiet and was staring at me. It made me self-conscious, but I was unable to look away once our eyes had met. I felt a connection. Like every other girl in Oakland Grove, I had long admired his good looks. His skin and baby blue eyes. But lying this close to him, I couldn't help but notice for the first time just how muscular his shoulders were, and how plump his lips looked. I let my gaze slip lower, to the rest of his body I had seen a thousand times, but which seemed so utterly different today. What was I doing, I just met him. I notice a rip in his shirt. “Wow, when did you get this?" I teased, reaching down to run my hand along his chest, But Roman caught my hand in his just before I touched him, startling me. When I looked into his eyes once again, his expression was intense, almost threatening. For a moment, I thought maybe he was angry, but before I could even ponder it further, he yanked me to him and covered my mouth with his in a hungry kiss. I responded immediately, surprising myself. His mouth was so warm, the caress of his lips softer than I could have imagined. He tasted tentatively with his tongue, and I opened my mouth with a low moan. Pg. 14 Before it went any further we were interrupted. “Hey, what’s going on,” A security guard yells. He stares at me in shock as if I was the one who kissed him. We run and hide behind boxes stacked on each other. “How many guards are there,” I asked breathing heavily. “Just one, I could kill him,” Roman says. “No, we’re not monsters,” I tell him. “Your no fun, then if I can’t you will, try it,” he says. “Roman, I - “Come on,” he said. In my heart I knew it was wrong. But I couldn’t control my hunger. I sneak behind him, almost hesitated, but force myself, and grabbed his neck. Sucking the blood felt great. But as half human it didn’t. “See, How did it feel,” he whispered in my ear. “Amazing.” I felt more like a vampire, but not me. But I loved the thrill. Roman walks towards me, and slowly kisses me on my neck. He felt how tense I was. I looked at him. “Your fangs are small, it’s cute,” he teased holding my chin. He opens the last packet dripping it in my mouth. He was turning me into him. I felt as I was losing control slowly. Slowly we drink through packets, sharing the last one, swimming our bodies with blood. We soon drunk all of them. I study his face. His smile. His laugh. I didn’t want to fall for him. But I slowly and gradually was. “Roman, what the hell did you get me into,” I say. He stares at me and smiles. ”I haven’t done this with anybody like this before,” he says. “What do you mean.” I sit up to fix my shirt. “Meaning I never met a girl who was like me, in this town,” he says. “Oh, I thought you brought all the girls somewhere to “bang,” I joked nudging his shoulder. “I didn’t, but I have tons of girls I did it with, sex is what I do when I’m in the mood. you were about to let me,” he laughs. “No, I wasn’t, I just tease,” I say. “Oh, really,” he says giving me stare and touching my thigh. “I know, what your doing, I’m not like that.” He leans towards me giving me a passionate kiss, and undoing my bra. I push him away, not knowing my strength he hit the wall. “Damn, your pretty strong,” he laughed. “Don’t try me, I’m not like the other girls you mess with.” I say laughing adjusting my bra. “I can’t help it, I’m not good at relationships, I just like being alone, always been alone,” he says. I felt so relatable. I always felt alone. “Well, I’m glad I’m the first,” I wiped the blood off my mouth. “Yeah,” he sighs. “What’s wrong. “ “We should get going, you can come over, so you can clean yourself,” he doesn’t even look at me and dodges my question. I didn’t question him, just got in his car. At least I finally knew something about where I came from and what I am. And understanding his crazy mood swings. Pg. 15
