Chapter 1: Pilot “No ones watching you. No ones there.“ I turn to hear the silent sounds of the woods as I come through the door. I quickly head upstairs. I run in my room and lock the door. “Hope,” it whispered. I didn’t have the courage to answer it, but stared hopelessly at my door in fear. The door began to shake and bang, creating rattle noises. I was paralyzed and couldn’t move. “Come to me,” it roared. I couldn’t move. I was afraid. I made a run for it, my room door busted open and black dust flew everywhere. I flew to the wall. As I look up to see who was behind it all, something grabbed me. Pg. 1 “Hope !, wake up your going to be late for your first day,” my mother yells. I wake up with a scar on my wrist shape as someone nails scraped along my skin. I wake myself up and get dress. I head downstairs In a rush. “So how’d you sleep, was it the same dream,” she asked. “Yeah, But this time it grabbed me,” I show her the mark. “Lord, we’re going to have to call someone,” she suggested. “No, I’m Fine, it didn’t even hurt,” I lied. I didn’t want any help. I wanted to figure out what’s happening to me by myself. “You sure,” she questioned. “Positive,” I pose a fake smile. “Well let’s head to the car.” And off we go to this new school. I just moved to Oakland Grove from Illinois. I wasn’t happy about the move. I moved here because my grandmother left this, big house to us. After she passed, we decided to move in. It’s just me and my mom. My dad died over a year now. But it felt like I was just with him yesterday. This is my dad’s house he grew up in. I was hoping I could reconnect with him by coming here. He was murdered. No one found who killed him. So I decided while I’m here I’ll figure it out. Pg. 2 “We’re here,” my mother says. “Can’t be late for work either, love you.” She throws air kisses at me. “Mom,” I roll my eyes. She’s so embarrassing. “I said I love you,” she repeats. “Love you too,” I closed the car door and head off. I head to my class. Mr. Allen. He introduce me to the class and I sat down. This High School was different from my old one. One class teaches every subject for the whole year. He called everyone for attendance. Just one person didn’t show up. “Roman Irving,of course,” he calls out. He shakes his head and scribbles something in the roster as he calls out names as if we’re getting a reward. “Hey, new girl,” a voice says beside me. “Um hi,” I say startled. “I’m Jessica, nice to meet you,” she says, holding out her hand. “I’m Hope, nice to meet you too,” I say. “Hopefully you don’t think I’m being strange,” she says. “Oh, no I seen strange, your fine,” I laugh. She turns around and adjusted her glasses and fluffs her short deep curls. “Do you have friends?,” she asked. “Nope, it’s my first day here,” I say. I didn’t mean to sound sarcastic, but I assumed she’s knows I’m new I don’t know anyone here. “Um, you could be my first, if you like,” I said. “Oh, yes, I mean okay, we’re besties !,” she seemed excited. Her eyes full of joy, I couldn’t say no. “Sure, bestie,” I smile. The bell rings and class is over. I decided to head to the library to read more about this town. “Hey, were you going,” Jessica asked while running after me. “The library, I need to research some stuff,” I replied. “Oh, well I give you my number, be safe and see you later,” she waves goodbye. “You too,” I take the piece of ripped paper she wrote and slide it in my book bag, and head off. Pg, 3 The library gave me old vibes. It was quiet, but spooky. I look for things about the town and go by alphabetical order. I read and read and found completely nothing. I was looking so much I lost track of time. I was sitting in books all over the place. “Excuse me, we’re about to close,” the librarian says. He walks over, thinking I didn’t hear him. He was old, his long beard, and Harry Potter glasses. He gave me the creeps. “Oh, sorry,” I say picking up my stuff in a hurry. “Wait, are you looking for anyway,” he asked. “Just something about this town, it’s no big deal,” I say. “I think I have something, he reaches his dainty fingers across the books and pulls out a book hidden between the cracks. He gives me a book, and I put in the bag not thinking anything of it. I leave and look at the clouds form and the sky began to turn gray. It was misty and warm it felt great until, heavy rain started pouring as I was walking. I was soaked, my hair wet I need to find a ride and a place to stay. My phones dead and I needed to call my mom. So I continued to walk. I heard noises, behind me. Like in my dream. “Hope,” it called out. I take a breath, to soothe my panic, arising like blood pressure. I finally got some courage to turn around, I was by myself. “Nothing to be afraid of.” Something flies past my shoulder. It was as fast as if nothing was there. But I felt it. I had to run. I ran into the woods until I saw light. And kept running. Until I found a house in the woods. It was big. It look modern. it looked normal. So for shelter I knocked. Pg. 4 No one answers. So I knock again. The door opens slowly, and I couldn’t keep waiting in the cold, wet, and afraid of something in the shadows. “Please, let me in,” I demanded. “How about you relax, like patience you know,” a voice says. A boy, around my age, opens the door. “Can I help you,” he says. “Um, I need help looking for a place to stay,” I say. “Sorry this isn’t a hotel, ,” he says closing the door. I heard noise behind me getting louder and couldn’t keep waiting so I slam the door open. I don’t know how but I did. “What the fuck,” he says. “I asked nicely,” I say. “Your paying for that,” he says laughing. “I will, just let me in,” I say. “Apparently you already in,” he says. “I’m sorry, for the door,” I say. He looks at me in disbelief and walks over to the kitchen. He pushes a button, and a storm door slides in. “That’s cool,” I say. “Yeah, so what do you need,” he asked. “Oh, a shower,” I said. “Help yourself, upstairs on the right.” I go upstairs feeling him watch me. Have you ever felt someone watching you, but there not there ? I know it’s strange. I quickly take a shower. I search for something. I turn around and see some by the door, walk off. I felt like I was being watched. But then again I’ve been crazy all day. I tie a towel around me and sneak to find something to wear. I see a robe on door and take it. It was a little lingerie for me, but I didn’t care. Pg. 5 I come downstairs to use his phone to call my mom. “So I-, “Um,” he stares at the ground trying not to stare at me as if it was wrong. I respect him for that. “Yea, I didn’t have anything to wear, I’ll take it off. “ I hold my hands getting sweaty as I wait for a responds. “It’s fine,” he says. “I’ll leave,- “No, your fine,” he said cutting me off. Someone opens the door. We look at each other across the room, keeping distance. “Roman, did you-, oh you didn’t tell me you had a girl over,” she says. “Mom, not now,” he says. “You must be Rosalyn,” she said holding out her hand. “No, I’m Hope,” I say. “Oh, well nice too meet you, I came to tell I’ll be home later, twelve o clock, okay ?,” she tells him. “Yeah, I don’t care,” he gives her a hateful smile. “Mhm, well bye dear,” she gives me a wicked smile, and walks to the door and leaves. “And Roman.” “What,” he says irritated. “Fixed the damn door,” she says. I look at him. He seems so, mean, but relatable. “Um. I should get going,” I say. I go upstairs to grab my stuff. I past a room and hear a little girl singing. “Hello,” a little voice calls out. I turn around to see a little girl. She covered her left eye with her long black hair. “Hi, who are you,” I asked bending over to her height. “I’m Sapphire, your pretty,” she says. “Oh, thank you, You too,” I say. “I’m not, I’m ugly,” she says. “No your not, who told you that,” I asked. “The kids at school,” she says. My heart dropped. I felt like crying. I looked at her pretty eyes. They were azure. “Well they’re wrong,” I say. She pushes her hair away from her left eye, revealing a scar on her face from her eye to her mouth. “You still think I’m pretty,” she asked. “Beautiful.” She smiles and gives me hug. A strong one. “Woah, your pretty strong,” I said catching my breath. “I’m Hope, nice to meet you,” I introduced myself. “Nice to meet your too,” she says cute and bubbly. “Alright that’s enough, time for bed,” Roman says standing by the door. “Alright, bye,” I say. She looks at me and smiles. “Goodnight,” she says to both of us. He walks in there and gives her a kiss on her cheek. It’s the first thing nice his done when I met him, meaning beside letting me in his home. Pg. 6 “Um, you need a ride,” he says giving me a strange look. “Yes, thank you,” I said and we head to his car. I give him his phone back. “So where you from,” he asked. “Illinois, just moved here yesterday,” I explain. He nods his head and continues to drive. I’d spot him looking at me from time to time during the ride, surveying my body. I was flattered, but felt a little uncomfortable. “So, what school do you go to,” I say. “Oak wood High school,” I respond. “Funny, I go to the same school,” he laughs. I just realize something about him. Was he the boy who was absent. “Roman Irving,” I whispered. “How do you know my name.” he turns his head towards me. “Your in my class,” I say nervously. “How old are you ?,” he asked. “Sixteen, I’m in accelerated classes.” “Oh, I was about to asked how your in my class,” he said. “Yeah, The next turn is my house,” I tell him. He continues riding. He starts looking uncomfortable. He looked angry as we were talking. “You miss my turn,” I say. He ignores me and looks strange in his eyes. I look to see if his listening to me. I grab his arm for him to answer. “Get out,” he says. “But, you didn’t- “I’m telling you to get out, I don’t want to hurt you,” he says. “Roman, what’s going on,” I let go of him. He pulls to an abandon parking lot, and hops out the car. Pg. 7 “Roman where are you going,” I yelled as he walks away. “I’ll be back, just stay here,” he says walking off. I just met a boy, who has anger issues, bipolar, lovable, and sinister at the same time. I think to myself what do I get myself into. I got out the car, and waited for him. As I wait a man approaches me. I pray hoping that Roman would hurry up. It was cold and dark. “Hey, pretty lady, what you doing at here alone,” a man asked. “I’m just waiting for someone, his getting something,” I tell him. “Why would someone as beautiful as you alone,” he says. “I’m not alone,” I explained to him again. “Sure looks like it,” he says. He walks towards me and grabs me. “Let me go,” I screamed. I hoped Roman would hear me. “Shut the fuck up,” he says grabbing my face. I hit him as hard as I could. Causes him to bleed out on his head. I look at my hand. It was bleeding. He gives me look and grabs me by my neck. “You shouldn’t have done that, he shows off his teeth, his eyes change golden yellow. “Let go of her,” a voice says. I turn to see Roman. He was bloody. He looked like he killed something. The man laughs and throws me. Roman went over there and the two started to fight. He throws a punch at Roman missing. Roman shoves him to the wall. Roman had grabbed him by the neck and bite his neck causing him to bleed rapidly. I try to get up, but felt a strike of pain in my arm. I look arm at my arm cut, slice open. It felt as tiny needles were stabbing my arm. I crawl to get to the car. And Roman drops the mans body. I couldn’t move as blood shot all over me like a sprinkler, splashing on my face. He just stared at me his fangs were showing. He helped me out, and went in the car. Pg. 8 “Get in,” he says. “Roman, what the fuck,” I cried trying to wipe my eyes. “Hope, get in the damn car,” he demanded. And I obeyed. So many motions went through my head. “What are you,” I said shaking. “I’m sorry you had to see all that,” he said. “Your a vampire,” I said in shock. “No, I’m a Upir,” he says. “That’s means you been like this-, “For 2 years now,” he said. “Your real, that means the werewolves are real. “Werewolves, now they are monsters, you just witness one,” he says. I knew this town was strange. I open my book bag in the back to grab something to wipe my face off. “Where you Born a vampire, I mean, upir ?,” I asked. “Nope, I start off as a human and gradually turn into this monster, which it’s a curse I plan learning how to get rid of,” he explained. “But how, you can’t- “Yes, I can,” he violently cut me off. I sit there not knowing what to feel. “Okay,” I agreed and we just left that at that. We pull up to my house. “Is this it,” he asked. “Yeah,” I say in a hurry. “And thank you, for helping me,” I said. “You welcome, let’s not talk about tonight,” he says. I nod and agree. “Thank you, for what you said to my sister,” he says. I surprised he remembers that. I surely did. “Oh, you welcome,” I say. It’s the first time I saw him smile. But blood around his mouth on his face kinda blew the moment. But I loved it. I stare at him, not looking at my bag, everything fell. “Shit.” He gets out the car and helped. Picking up the stuff, I revealed my scar. “What that,” he said. And grabs the arm and examines it. “Oh, it’s nothing really,” I lied. I felt as he knew I was lying. I looked up at his baby blue eyes, looking straight into my soul. “I promise,” I say. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” he said and gets in the car. I walk to the house and head to bed. My mother was still not home, she had to work late. So I decided to wash up and cleanse myself. I locked the doors and fall asleep. Looking at his shirt of a wolf. It’s strange how he had a shirt like this and his a vampire. I wasn’t thinking anything of it. And went to sleep. Pg. 9
