As a beautician the one phenomenon I have not been able to comprehend or accept is that which I call "$200 weave - $2 budget". Ladies let me advise that when you decide to get your hair done and that's if you want it looking like it was done by a professional..... please, budget not only for the bundle but also for the cost to install that bundle. I remember once I was sitting in my styling chair awaiting my next appointment and in walks **Tyquisha. "Girl I need me a weave and I only got $40 dollars." Now I know that in many cities in the US a $40 weave exists but not where I'm located! With a cocktail of shock, embarrassment and humour on my face, I nicely told Tyquisha that she needed to somehow bring that $40 to at least $80 because she was asking me to give her a 60% discount which is a bit much. She was somehow able to get to $60 after cashing out some lottery (scratch and win) tickets. And this was after she offered me those tickets along with the $40 and I vehemently refused them. For the record, her 8 inches Remy hair cost her approximately $65 yet she thought it was ok to "offer" me $40 and some lottery tickets to stand for a hour and a half to do her sew-in. Ladies!!! I'm speaking specifically to my black sisters out there. Let's support each other and stop walking on each other. In pursuit of "the good hair" we drive a multibillion dollar industry that is ran predominantly by non-blacks. We have no problem with walking into Mr. Wong's or Muhammed's beauty supply and spending hundreds of dollars on hair and hair products. Yet, the professional who has the know how is viewed as not being worth more than a few bucks and 2 lottery tickets. It is my wish that you wise up. So did I do it? Yes I did! I love making females feel beautiful....even those who fail to recognize my worth 😉. This was just another day in my life behind the chair.
