'He says he is crazy about me'Sue told her. 'Did he kiss you?' asked Janet. 'Of course,' Sue chuckled. ' don't be silly Janet. He is awfully sweet and you know he has such a nice nature. Of course I don't believe half the things he says to me.' 'My dear you're not going to fall in love with him.' 'I have,' said Sue. 'Darling, isn't it going to be rather awkward?' ’Why would it be awkward?’ Sue questioned with incromprehension in her voice. ’Suzette my dear, It’s because Lucas is your brother’ Janet reminded her, hoping that her friend will come to her senses at once, but she failed to persuade her. ’ ‘And so what? It’s gross’ Janet pulled a grimace in disgust. ’No, you can’t understand’ Sue got furious all of sudden, and left Janet high and dry on the street. Janet just stared at the receding figure of her classmate, wondering what had got into her that caused this… madness. When Sue got home she was still sulky. Janet was too dumb to gasp this feeling of pure love she felt for her brother, all she could do is run her mouth about something she had no knowledge of, since she was an only child. Sue threw herself onto her bed and stared at the ceiling for a few moments, but then she got bored and went into her brother’s room instead. She was alone, as her parents were still at work, and Luke was nowhere to be found. Sue had no idea where her brother had gone, so she gave him a ring but he didn’t answer the phone. She tried to do her homework, but she got distracted by her thoughts revolving around Luke. She loved him, and she felt it was reciprocated, yet she was afraid and jealous of every other female creature, who had ever approached her brother. If she could she would put this love of theirs into a glass jar to protect it from the dangers of the outside world and to make it last forever. She thought of this relationship as a fragile flower which could wither at any moment then cease to exist. These concerns didn’t let her concentrate, so she put her biology book aside. She felt that she was dying from the inside without him, the world seemed gray even though it was sunny outside. She stood up and pulled the curtains together to make the room gloomier, which matched her mood. She now wished that she wouldn’t have abandoned Janet even if she had talked such nonsense, because then she wouldn’t be alone and in despair, feeling she was not loved by anyone. She changed her positions on the bed but her torment didn’t stop. After minutes of suffering in silent solitude, she heard the front door open, but she didn’t move an inch. ’Hi honey’ Her mother shouted from downstairs. So it was just her parents, not Lucas. She let out a frustrated sigh, and picked up the biology book to give the impression of studying in front of her mother. Soon she opened the door to Luke’s room and looked surprised at her daughter, who just glanced at her from behind the book. ’Where’s Luke?’ She asked curiously. Sue felt her stomach cramp. ’No idea’ She replied quickly pretending that she didn’t care at all. Her mother just shrugged then closed the door behind her. Sue could have gone after her but she didn’t, instead she hugged a pillow and not soon after she started crying, her silent tears gradually turning into sobbing. She couldn’t stop the tears running down her pale face. She was going through hell, but she knew it would all fade away when Luke arrived and she’d be happy again. After hours of hopeless waiting, the front door opened again, and this time Lucas entered. He came up to his room and was surprised to see Sue there. ’What’s up, sis?’ he asked in a calm voice as if nothing had happened. ’Where have you been?’ screamed Sue. Luke seemed rather struck by the sudden exclaim. ’What?’ he asked back, confused, the replied. ’I was with Inna’ ’Why are you hanging out with other girls?!’ This time she shouted so loud that even her mother asked if everything was alright. Luke backed away, and that was the moment Sue turned her face to him, so he could see her tear-stained cheeks, and his behaviour instantly changed. ’What’s wrong, Sue?’ ’You are wrong. One day you tell me you love me and on the next…’ her voice trembled a little. ’ I can assure you it was all about the homework…’ ‘Don’t lie to me!’ Sue shrieked, and Luke took another step back. She wanted to stop blaming her brother but the words just burst out of her throat. She knew she was destroying their relationship yet she couldn’t stop herself from doing so. When she had thrown every insult on Luke that came into her mind, she sat on the edge on the bed and began crying again. Luke hugged her from behind, despite all the rude things she had said to him earlier. ’Never leave me’ Sue whispered. ’I would never forsake you’ Luke promised and kissed the forehead of her sister. After a few peaceful moments of cuddling, they exchanged a passionate kiss and Sue felt the warmth of happiness spread across her body, until she saw her mother on the doorstep, looking horrified at her children.
