A series about the animals of the forest: Cats, dogs, birds, squirrels, bears, badgers, foxes and more. The cats could scent the dogs on the other side of the burrow. A brave cat stepped forward. "Come out you filthy mutts." He hissed. "Don't be a fleabag, Mousestar." Said the aging wolfdog. Yowls of alarm sounded from behind, and a group of cats left the tree's shadowy protection. "Wolfpack, Mouseclan why are you here?" An elder shecat hissed. "How lovely, it's Birdclan! We don't come to fight, we are here to settle a dispute. Do not mind us." The wolfdog mumbled. "What dispute?" Another cat stepped forward. "Hunting grounds..." A dog yelped from behind. "This is a place of peace, not petty fights!" She slashed at a patch of grass with her paw. "Aww don't be like that, Featherpelt!" Another cat hissed as he entered the field. "We were wondering when you were going to show up, Birdstar!" Snorted the Wolfpack leader. "Hello, Baltimore." Birdstar meowed coolly. "Birdstar! Why are we here? I thought you would trust me as your mate!" She yowled with hurt in her eyes. Birdstar slinked torwards the she cat. "Not now, we can talk later about your position..." His eyes pleaded for her to stop. "Do I sense fear in your heart, Birdstar? Don't tell me she knows about this!" Mousestar's eyes shrunk to slits as he stepped forward. "We agreed no one would know until we had decided!" Birdstar looked over torwards the waiting cats nearby. "We meet at Clantrees at dawn!" He yowled running into the woods. "Till dawn!" The others shouted in usion, turning to race after thier leader. "We fly Birdclan!" A queen yowled at some cats at her sholders. The cats turned and fled. A small fox kit darted into the opening, scattering the gathered cats. "Max, come back!" It's mother screeched as she came running after it. Baltimore jumped on Max, stopping his mother. "Don't hurt Max, please don't hurt my baby!" She squealed. "Why not? I think he will taste good! Maybe my pups will enjoy thier first taste of fox." Baltimore growled. "Pups, come here!" He snarled. "Yes, papa?" They yipped. "What would you do, to save his life?" He turned on her. "I'll do anything! Please don't hurt him!" She started sniffing the ground. He shoved her nose into the ground and growled, "Anything? Well, I have an idea." He leaned down next to her ear and whispered. "A strong wolf-dog needs a brave, good looking mate for his children's mother. Right? She looked at him. "Yes, why?" She yipped. "I want you to help make a new breed. My pack is becoming weaker and weaker, I need stronger children." He looks at her with slight pleading looks, and she sighs. "If it will mean saving my son, yes." He lets go and stepps back. "You need to make it seem like love, of course." He nipps at her ear. "Of course." He nuges her with his shoulder. "Meet us at Clantrees tomarrow at dawn, with your clan. And... I keep the kit tonight." She looks at him, clearly terrified. "Of course, I won't hurt him, do you want a war?" She looks at Max, and notices he's playing with the other pups. She wiggles over to him. "Baby, you're going to stay with the pups tonight. Is that okay?" Max looks at her with excitement. "Really? Yay!" She turned around and ran into the underbrush, the cats silently watch her go. "Now what? You let dinner run away!" He turns to the pup standing by his mother. He tilts his head torwards her. "You'd best teach your pup to keep his trap shut!" He growles at her. The pup scrambles away from Baltimore. He shakes his head with worry, wondering why Moonclan cursed him with everlasting embarrassment. He shook with rage. He watched Max as he pretended to fight off one of his oldest pups.
