I know darkness. All too well. Light, not so much. I did once but my memory of light is blurred by darkness’ abduction. I sometimes notice Light: in small gestures of strangers and in the eyes of innocent animals. I sometimes see glimpses of Light in photographs captured before I suffered loss and in the genuine laugh of a child. Still, I don’t pay much attention because it’s impolite to stare— but maybe sometime, even next time, I will say hello, and maybe then I will find that the invitation to stay has always been there. gemnah maley bray
