I know darkness. All too well.
Light, not so much.
I did once but my memory of light
is blurred by darkness’ abduction.
I sometimes notice Light:
in small gestures of strangers
and in the eyes of innocent animals.
I sometimes see glimpses of Light
in photographs captured before I suffered loss
and in the genuine laugh of a child.
Still, I don’t pay much attention
because it’s impolite to stare—
but maybe sometime, even next time,
I will say hello, and maybe then
I will find that the invitation to
stay has always been there.
