"I'm from a war torn Honduras, a civil war, I've been in this country, seeking asylum, for 14 years."He said. "What about your girlfriend, why haven't you married her? You can't keep this up forever" I said. "You don't understand, she's crazy, she doesn't work, she doesn't want my daughter around." He exclaimed. I had found myself torn between duty towards country, and this man's pleas for help. "The cops harass me, they pull me over just because if the color of my skin" he said. "Sir, they are just doing their job, they pull over everyone. Nobody is immune from the law, I've been pulled over for numerous things, and I'm as white as a sheet!" I said. " Sargent Henley pulls me over every time he's on shift, like clockwork. Once I spent 8 hours in jail, because I looked like someone they were looking for. So,i asked to see a picture of the man, it was not me." He said. "You are very smart to ask for his picture." I said. " But what is it exactly that you need?" "I need to get married, it is the only way I and 12 million people like me in this country can stay here legally. With a social security card, I can move mountains." He explained. I sucked in my breath as I read this text. It was evident he was very serious, but still-14 years here in America, and he never bothered to get married, or take a test? Something was wrong with this scenario.
