A dog is called a man’s best friend But Harley was more than that She was a pal to a family of three She couldn’t be better at that Gotten when she was a little pup Frisky and so full of zest They had her ears perked up So that she would look her best Growing up along with Wade Romping around the yard Wade followed Dad and wagon Shoveling Harley’s discard Rolling around on the floor with Whomever Harley could entice Fun for Wade, Dad & Grandpa And for exercise would suffice Please pat me or plump my bed Was often her insistent request A big soft bed by the fireplace Usually was her choice to rest And if the fireplace was not aglow She’d find a warm and sunny spot Unless a stranger came to the door A nuzzle was the greeting you got Although she never bit anyone Her size was often a bit of a scare But when you got to know her The love she showed was there Harley will be remembered For so many fine things Obedience trained, yet playful The emptiness of the house rings So many people will miss her Not just her family for sure But we know she is at rest now No more suffering to endure So we give a great big salute To Harley, she was the best Filling the holes in our hearts With memories that will never rest © Copyright 2004.05.01: by Jean E.
