Breaking The News I waited nervously while everyone slowly filed out of the room. But their movements seemed so slow compared to my thought going a mile a minute. What animal am I supposed to have? What if I'm not paired with one? Will I be able to come to this school even if I don't? Do I even want to come? The professor startled me with his sudden question, "Amelia, would you down here? I don't want to have to communicate via shouting." I responded by standing up and walking towards him, anxiety obvious in my step. "Do you want to go to this school?" he asked. His voice was quiet, but it was as scart as yelling. It had a steely feeling that sent shivers down my spine. I almost replied that I wouldn't be here if I didn't want to be here, but I afraid of what he would say. Instead I said, "Yes, sir." His voice just as quiet, he asked, "Good, because this will probably shock you. We do have your scores in, and yours are like none that we've seen ever before. It seems that you have two polar personalities huh? You've tested positive for both wolf and cat." I couldn't stop myself, "WHAT!" How is that even possible? Some people say I'm two-faced, meaning no offense, of course, but they said I acted very differently depending on the situation. I never considered that it was that severe or that it affected my lifestyle so much. Wait, what animal would I be fused with? He answered that question shortly, "So we came up with two solutions: one, you can choose between the wolf or cat, since it's not safe to have the DNA of two different animals, or two, we can fuse you with the Artic Wolf, which is a solitary wolf sort of. "We'll give you until tomorrow, like the other students, if you decide to go through with it. You'll tell the staff there then." My brain felt like it was twisted in a pretzel shape trying to process all of this. Wolf, cat, or Artic Wolf? This would affect me for the rest of my life, so choosing sounds almost impossible, of I come at all. "I know this is a lot to process, so do you have anymore questions?" he asked. I simply shook my head, getting my bangs in my eyes, for I didn't think I was capable of speaking at this point. "Oh!" he exclaimed, startling me, "Two things: one, if you're a wolf, you're required to become a part of the wolf pack, and the cats are planning to start a clan for themselves, so if that helps you decide. And the name is Mr. Robinwood," he said witha grin. "Wait, you're the founder of Robinwood Prep?" I questioned. "Yes, my family is. You know, I got a feeling about you, kid, and I don't get those often." I snorted. "Let's hope it's a good one," I said, walking out the door, and strait into another student. As soon as I got to my senses, I relized she looked a lot like the professor I just left. She had dark brown hair like him and gray eyes, unlike him though. Her mouth was fixed in a frown, and looked like she did that a lot, by the look of it. She was definitely fused with a bull, making her a sophomore, for she had horns sticking out of her head. Is this what Mia will look like? Angry and mean? "Get lost kid," she spat. She obviously wasn't in a good mood, and any normal person wouldn't think of picking fights, so I started edging around her to walk away when Mia showed up. She probably was waiting on me and saw the seen. "Hey watch it, no one asked you to pick qny fights with anybody," Mia said, towering over her. That's when I realized that she was about the same size as me, and I wasn't very tall, actually most people would say I was short. "Oh really it actually looks like your the one picking fights here," the bull replied, steping cloaer to Mia, ready to knock her over with a swing of her head. "Mia quit it," I intervened, "It's not worth it." "Finally someone sensible here. You better listen to her, Mia," she practically spat her name out. Mia was shooting bullets out of her eyes by the glare she was giving the bull. "What's your name?" "Dove, why?" "So I know just who I need to-" Mia was interrupted by a sudden new voice. "Mia?" Zach asked, sounding worried. I whirrled around to see both Zach and Taylor standing behind me. Great, I thought, just what I needed. All of my posible new friends will now hate me and I'll be back at square one with Mia. "Mia not now! We're sorry about that. Mia didn't know you guys knew Dove. Come on Mia, let's go find our dorms," I said, sounding tired. I walked away with Mia behind me to overhear Dove say, "I hope I don't have a dorm with them." As soon as we were around the corner, I almoat shouted, "Why did you have to go and do that Mia? Now all the sophomores will see us as jerks, and we can't go to the other school where everyone already hates us!" I paced the floor. "Gees Amel, I didn't know they were friends with that brat." "Well they are! Wht are we going to do? This can't be like middle school! I won't let it!" I bet I sounded like an upset toddler throwing a tantrum, but it was breaking me to the point of screaming at my best friend. The darkness started to spread closer and closer. No, no, this can't be happining again. I wobbled on my unsteady legs. "Uh, Amel are you having another attack?" I simply nodded, not being able to forxe words out of my traitorous mouth. The darkness was all around me now, closing in for the kill. An arm rapped around my shoulders, pushing me forward. "Come on, let's find your dorms so you can sit down," Mia cooed. It seemed so easy just to lean into her shoulders, so protecting and kind. All my anger fell to tiredness as I finally gave into the darkness. I watched Amel and Mia walk away, sure my face was written with concern. "I hope I don't have a dorm woth them," Dove sneered. "That was a little harsh, don't you think?" Taylor said. "I know," I said, watching them turn around a corner. I heard Amel raise her voice on Mia, "And isn't Amel my freshman?" "Zach, is she ok?" Taylor asked, watching Dove storm of. "Dove or them?" "Oh, Dove will be ok, but what about Amel and Mia? It doesn't sound so good over there." "I'll go check on them," I replied, using my long stride to walk quicker. I heard Amel's disparate voice getting weaker and eventually silent. What happened? Is she ok? I thought with rising panic. I found Amel leaning on Mia, who was holding her up. I saw Amel's breathing shallow and her body slump as Mia carried her away. What did I just see? What did Mia do to her? I felt my chest tighten and my traitor brain think: Mia will pay for this. I didn't even know if this was Mia doing this to her, but felt my heart do a little flip in seeing Amel's breathing deepen. I reminded myaelf that I couldn't feel this way, turning arouns and walking away.
