"If you want to change the world, love a man, really love him" ... believe it or not, this is a title of a poem written by a lady named Lauren something (can't remember her surname). This poem was shared to me by a friend of mine and upon reading it, I was inspired by it simply because I get where she was coming from. For the longest time, this world has been about man versus woman, with man claiming that this is a man's world. But if we open our minds and stop to think for a minute, this is not really a man's world. Not literally anyway. From the beginning of mankind, God created a man - Adam. But alone, Adam can't do anything much. He would have been a very lonely man all by himself in this big world and so God created Eve to keep Adam company and to be his mate. Okay, maybe Eve had blindsided Adam and messed it all up for the both of them, but from that incident alone there's a lesson to be learned. I've heard countless complaints and remarks from women about their dissatisfaction towards the men in their life. Remarks like, 'a good man is a dead man', 'men are only good for one thing', 'men are all the same', are among those that I have heard. And when the tables are turned and men make remarks like, 'a woman's place is in the kitchen', 'it is the woman's duty to take care of the kids, 'women are supposed to serve their men as their Lord and Master'.... women flip out. My question is this.... why are we stereotyping and where is the mutual respect? Isn't respect the most important foundation in any relationship? I've also heard women complaining about how their partner don't do enough, don't give enough, don't try hard enough, etc. How much is "enough" exactly? Maybe their man is doing the best he can. Harping, nagging and continuous complaining isn't going to solve anything. It will only lead to a disgruntled heart which would lead to anger and bitterness which eventually is going to eat you up inside. Some women will act out on their emotions by picking fights, giving silent treatment.... a case of 'since I'm miserable, I'll make your life miserable too'. Where does it end? More importantly, what does it solve? So ladies, if you're reading this, know that I am not bashing on you for I am a woman too. All I'm saying is, let's make a change and leave our mark in this world. Let's switch things up and be the bigger person. We got what it takes to do just that. We are built that way. The next time you feel that your man doesn't measure up to your expectations, instead of spitting venom in his face, try this.... Love them so hard that they cannot help but melt in your presence. Love them so deeply that in your warmth they feel safe to open up and be vulnerable. Love them so fiercely that they rise like warriors for all that is good. And finally, love them so courageously that they stand with you as an example of what it takes to change the world.
