Somewhere In-between

Years of telling add to this story,
Little bits and pieces added by those telling it.
Thus a tale that can only be truthfully told by the few,
The few who were there, who cried the tears of pain.
Whose hearts were left in pieces somewhere in-between then and now?

Where long ago a mother’s tears have dried,
Not forgotten from weary eyes, just out of tears to cry.
An aging mind struggles to remember every moment,
Every breath, cry and sound of laughter.
Remember each smell, each smile, and every tear.
For this mind has but one fear,
That is that winds of time shall make me forget.

Somewhere in-between these lines of bittersweet memories,
Somewhere in-between these tears fallen upon ink and paper,
Somewhere in-between re-telling of this sad mother’s tale.
Somewhere in-between these things are where the truth lies.
Somewhere in-between that is where you, my child will find my heart.

Hindsight is twenty twenty they say,
Forgive my youth of yesteryear,
I knew no other way,
To keep you healthy happy and safe.

Somewhere in-between all this is where you will find,
The broken pieces of a mother’s heart.
Somewhere in-between all this lies,
The answers you are hoping to find…
