Chapter 4
"Just what kind of trick are you trying to pull?!"
Eric slammed both his hands on the table. Causing John to almost choke on a mouth full of rice.
Ignoring Eric, John continued to chew his food. After swallowing the content in his mouth, John pulled out a sheet of tissue from a box of tissues on his table and wiped his mouth with it.
"I don't understand what are you saying." John calmly said as he sat back in his chair and stared up at the furious Eric, mildly annoyed that his lunch was being interrupted.
Eric felt his blood boil as he yelled furiously, "Don't you dare play principal with me! You know damn well what I'm talking about! Why did you ask Chris to convince Bea to participate in the event?!"
Raising an eyebrow, whenever he is intrigued with something, John replied, "Be careful of your words, he was the one that volunteered to do it. I just went along with it."
"You could have rejected him!" Eric shouted.
"......I don't recall having to be told what I can or can't do." John said, leaning forward while interlocking his hands on the desk.
“She has already rejected you! Why the hell are you so persistent?!” Eric asked. He could feel his blood boil with anger.
Avoiding Eric's question, John asked, "Why didn't you stop him then?"
"I know Chris well, when he sets his mind on something, nothing can stop him." Eric clicked his tongue in frustration.
“Find someone else.” Eric ordered as he looked to his left and crossed his arms, refusing to face John any longer.
“I have orders and that is to use the first, and only the first in the entire school gets to represent the school in the event.” John said, stressing on the words ‘only the first’.
This made Eric lose it. He leaned over the desk and grabbed John’s tie by force, yanking the man from his comfortable seat, bringing John’s face up to his.
“You’re the principal, yet you are nothing but his puppet!” Eric said in between gritted teeth.
Unfazed by Eric’s deathly glare and murderous tone, John smacked Eric’s hand away. He then stood up and walked up to a long rectangular mirror that was hung up on the wall.
"I don't think I deserve a lecture from a student.” John hissed as he adjusted his crooked tie.
After finally readjusting his tie, John turned to face the still very furious Eric, waiting for him to say something.
Eric asked, fuming. “This is all just a game to you, isn’t it?”
“Is it that fun to toy with people’s emotions and feelings?!” Eric glared at John. He hated that arrogant, know it all attitude of John that the man likes to put on. It was repulsive.
John frowned at that comment. “I don’t think this is a game and I don’t think that you are joking.” He replied sternly. He looked dead into Eric’s eyes and commented, “I don’t understand why are you being so protective of that girl.”
Eric flinched at John’s comment. “I……!”
Eric was about to rebut when the bell rang.
"Shouldn't you be heading back to class now? Or would you like me to hand you a late entry slip?" John asked as he walked back to his desk.
Eric grunted before walking towards the door. John had expected Eric to storm out, but he was surprisingly calm. Eric reached for the door handle and pushed open the door. He paused suddenly and instead of walking out, he pulled the door shut again. John stared at Eric’s unusual behaviour. Unsure of what to expect.
"You are just as cruel as he is." Eric uttered without looking back, his grip on the door handle tight, almost forceful.
If Eric had turned around to look at John at that moment he would have gotten the satisfaction of seeing a look of disdain and furrowed brows.
John heard the door open once again and he looked up. "I won't forgive you if any of them ends up getting hurt." Eric warned before walking out and shutting the door behind him.
