A Warrior Falls Read Count : 116

Jacob planted his foot on the tree trunk and pulled the blade free of the wood. He could hear his enemy's heartbeat throbbing in his ear as if it ran through his veins. He was all the more aware of his fangs as he fought down the primal urge to feast. He swiftly turned to face his enemy, his eyes darkening in fury. Losing control was not an option. He raised the broadsword above his head and let loose an animalistic howl as he swung toward the brawny soldier in front of him. He fully expected the heavy tooth-jarring clang of steel against steel, not the sudden soft thunk of pliable resistance. Immediately his hands were covered in warm liquid, the life essence of the man in front of him who now stood wide eyed and unbelieving in front of him. All was silent but for the ragged breaths from Jacob and the quiet gurgling of death approaching. A bird cheerfully sang in the forest beyond the village unaware of the carnage unfolding mere meters away. The brawny soldier slowly sank to his knees, his eyes never leaving Jacob's. They seemed to say thank you, completely devoid of anger or malice. Jacob felt the moisture leave his mouth as he watched the life leave those sad eyes. As the soldier slumped to the ground the blade slid effortlessly from his stomach.
