  Oh lovely crow,
  how is your day?
  Sing me a song
  if you may!

  I've heard from the
  birds around the lane
that your voice is as sweet
  as sugar cane.

  A poor old, weary fox
  like me;
  my heart is hurt and
  lack glee.
I beg you sing a song
  a song for me
  while I rest beneath
  this shady tree.

  What magnificent beak
  beak you have but your
  voice I've never heard.
  You possess such velvety
  feathers; you're really
  a marvellous bird.

  Oh close your eyes
  and sing oh crow,
  and I will listen
  from below
  the branches of
  this shady tree.
  Oh crow please sing
  a song for me.

  Ha aye!! Oh what
  a stupid bird.
  I hardly understood
  a word
  of that absurd song
  You sing. Gee whiz!
  All I wanted was your
  Piece of cheese.

  I've toiled all day without
  a bite to eat
  but you have blessed
  me with a treat.
Your voice is really lovely though
I advise you not to sing oh crow
for you have shifted the drums
   Inside my ears
   with that squeaky voice
   I fear to hear.
   Ha ha,oh what a stupid
bird. Thank you for the cheese.
Oh don't cry now, you are so
   kind; you'll find another piece.

                      A. P. Johnson.
