Help us, Lord, to encourage those around us who are going through hard things in life: loneliness, grief, pain and sickness, unemployment, changes that are hard to face, etc.

Show us how we can make a difference in this world for you, and that we will give you the glory, not ourselves.

Teach us to be humble, so we can receive more assignments from you to help others. Give us wisdom and discernment to not just see the surface needs of people, but the deeper needs as well.

Let us not be afraid to reach out with love and kindness and mercy. Teach us not to fear when bad things happen around us, but to keep building our faith and trust in you. Bad things are always going to be happening, but we don't have to despair because of them, because you are always with us.

Thank you for all the things you do for us, most of which we do not see. Help us to appreciate you more with each passing day.

Help us to set aside our busyness, so we can have more time with you. Give us new insights and wisdom and applications from your word, the Bible, for our lives. Show us how to use the resources you have already given to us, and direct us to more resources and opportunities, so we can serve you better.

Teach us to think about the consequences of our words and actions before we say or do them, so we will not hurt others. Help us to forgive quickly when we are hurt so bitterness will not grow within us, and eventually destroy us in many ways. 

You know what we need much more than we do, so please fill in the gaps of our prayers, because we are not wise enough to know what our true needs are.

We praise you, Lord, and give you the glory for all you have already done for us, and what you will be doing this coming year. In Jesus' name. Amen.
