With sullen face the sky dozed,
Tiny dim lamps stars did light;
Queen moon sang a solemn dirge,
Fondly closed the dark last night.

Year melted yet left behind
Memories both pleasant and foul,
Melodies sweet and bitter
To touch and stir human soul.

Lucky years leave their footmarks
On history's glorious page;
Noble deeds with splendour sparkle
On the brow of every age.
