### Chapter 2 _Escape_

The trip started out what Jay always imagined what a kidnapping or witness relocation might feel like. Karen from accounting, or perhaps her name was Katelyn, ushered Jay down to a nondescript dark green sedan waiting for them by the entrance. Jay climbed into the back next to a backpack, while Karen sat in the passenger seat next to the driver, Joy.

Joy explained what flight he was taking and where her husband had stayed -- the Rainbow Trout Lodge -- while Karen went over the inventory of his impromptu luggage and it's contents. All new, just for this trip. Shirts, socks... Jay's vision drifted out the window at the line of traffic they were weaving through while the women chattered from the front seat.

"I'm sorry," muttered Jay, "I guess I have been... a bit of a jerk lately. For you two to drop everything at the last minute to plan a vacation just floors me."

Joy and Karen exchanged looks. "That's okay, we had help," Karen said quickly. "I found the Trout Lodge receipt in my husband's pocket and made a couple of phone calls," Joy added, "it was no trouble."

The women accompanied him through the airport as far as security allowed. As they disappeared from view, an airport security agent asked Jay if he had packed his own luggage.

"Isn't it nice?" Jay said convivially to the agent, "they packed it for me and gave it to me on the way here for my vacation."

The security agent looked Jay up and down without smiling. Finally he said, "I'm going to need you to follow me..."
