Chapter 6, The Plan

The light shown through the window and got in my eye. I saw the light also bounce off of Kay's face. She turned over and covered up her face with the blanket. I got up out of the bed, and fixed it up. I tip toed over to Kay and slowly removed the blanket from over her face. 
"Kay... Kay, it's time to get up. We have to get started on the chores." I whispered. 
"Ugh... Ok...." She said tiredly as she got sluggishly out of bed. We both headed out the bedroom. We walked into the bathroom, brushed our hair and got a shower. We headed back out of the bathroom and saw Winter standing there with a big smile on her face.
"Did you sleep well? I hope you did." She said happily.
"Yes." We both said smiling. 
"That's great! Well, it's about time for chores. Please head out to the barn, and I'll be out in a second. You remember the chores, right?" She said nicely.
"Yes. We remember them. We'll get right to it." I responded with a smile.
We walked outside and over to the barn. We opened the doors and the cows began to moo, and the goats started to scream. We both grabbed the shovel and the big bag and started scooping up the poo. After we were done takes up the old hay and refilled their feeders, and their water buckets, and basically made the place look nice. Winter knocks on the already wide open barn door as she walks in.
"Hey guys! Wow, you guys did great!" She said surprised with a smile. She seemed to be trying to hold in excitement for something.
"Hey, uhm... Kaitlyn?" Winter said with her eyes fixated on her.
"Yes?" She said sweetly with a smile.
"Since your chores are done, do you want to go play?"
"Sure!" She said as they locked arms and ran out of the barn. I watched them run out with confusion on my face, then I dismissed it and went back to cleaning up the place. Just then, Will walked into the barn with a gentle smile on his face.
I smiled back. 
"You know you didn't have to clean up this place. That was our chores." He said with a small chuckle. 
"We appreciate it very much, though. Thank you very much."
"Oh, you're welcome. We don't mind helping out a little extra. If anything, we love to see you guys happy." I said with a smile.
"So, Kira... When is your birthday?" He asked with the purest of smiles on his face.
"Mine is actually next week, on Thursday. Why do you ask?" I said kindly.
"Well, I was just wondering. I'm assuming you and your sister are going to be long term company?" He said concerned.
"Well, sure. I think we would enjoy it. And we'd be safe here..." I said with fear in my voice.
"Yes... Very safe." He said with suspicion.
"What about Kaitlyn? When is her birthday?" He asked kindly.
"Her birthday has already passed. It was a couple months ago." I responded.
"Interesting... Do you mind if we throw her a late party? Like a 'sorry it's two months late but here it is' party?" He said with a giggle. I giggled too. 
"I think that'd be ok. I mean, on her birthday, the best thing she did was play in the pool by herself because her friends never showed up, and our father and I were busy... I still feel bad about it. She still hasn't got a present..."
I said with sadness. 
"Well, I think we can fix that. I just need you to do three things for me." He said.
"What would those things be?" I asked curiously.
"Well, one... Watch those two rascals while I'm gone. It won't take long. Two... Keep it secret. Even from Winter. She doesn't know. And three... Try not to act suspicious. They will eventually catch on that something is up. We don't want that if we are putting together a suprise party. That's it. Do you think you can do that?" He said with a wink.
"Yes, I think I can." I responded with a smile.
"Ok, great! And what do you think she would want for her birthday? Do you remember what she asked for?" He asked with curiosity.
"Uhm... I think she asked for a pony." I said thinking hard of what she'd want.
"Ok, I think we can do that. Be right back." He said with a kind smile as he walked out of the door. I smiled widely. Winter and Kaitlyn walked in and saw me smiling like an idiot at the door. Winter waved her hand in front of me face.
"Hello... Earth to Kira..." She snapped her fingers. I snapped out of it with a jump.
"What were you staring at?" 
"Nothing..." I said embarrassed.
"Well, ok I guess... Come on Kaitlyn, let's go play." Winter said as she ran out the door. Kaitlyn looked at me and the turned back and ran after her.
"I wonder if they heard" I thought to myself. "I hope this plan works out."
