Wasn't Love

I never really understood why we were together. It wasn't really love, I know that now. I guess it started out as convenience. I needed someone to hold me up and you needed something to do. In the end that's all we were to each other. I can't even remember how many times I dragged you back home and got you on your bed. I'd take your shoes off and clean you up before laying down next to you. But I never slept. I cried instead. You never thanked me. Not even once. I doubt you even knew what I did for you. But you held me when I cried and cleaned me up when I was hurt. You were there when no one else was, but you left soon enough. It doesn't really matter now. I doubt you even remember. It was short lived and painful. Like a spark that lands on your arm. It burns for awhile but it goes out quickly. In the end, you're still left with a scar. I guess though that it worked out. You seem happy now and I'm don't all right for myself. I don't know what we had. But I don't miss it, I wouldn't trade it for the world, and it definitely wasn't love.
