It was around 8 in the night when I needed to go to a nearby mall to run some errands, so I asked my mum to book me an Uber. There was currently an offer going on for Uber so my ride was supposed to be a free ride. 

 I was waiting outside when the Uber pulled up and the first thing that caught my eye was the fact that it was a really nice car. I don't remember what car it was but if my memory serves me right it was a light metallic brown 5 seater.  Not to mention, it looked new. It struck me weird as this was the first time I got a Free Uber ride in such a nice car. 

I greeted the driver as I entered the seat behind the driver's seat, he didn't greet me back. The first thing I noticed about the inside of the car was that it was really dark, like creepy dark. Thinking back, I guess it was to be expected that it would be dark as his interior was black leather. However, the tinted windows didn't help with the dark atmosphere. Nevertheless, it was so dark, I couldn't make out the face of the driver from the rear mirror.   

The radio was playing and the inside of the car smelled nice, I'm not sure if it was the smell of the car itself or some air freshener, either way it had a nice scent. Even until then, I didn't think much of anything. I guess you could say I was trying to convince myself that nothing is wrong. But from the moment I got into the car, all of my senses were screaming that something didn't feel right.

What freaked me out the most was that the driver was unusually quiet. I did give him some directions but that was all. Even at that point, I kept telling myself to not think too much into this thou, I was definitely on my guard. 

The entire ride was torture because I was paranoid out of my mind that something was going to happen to me. So when we arrived at the destination and I was still in one piece, I was ready to get out of the car. 

My hand was on the door handle way before the car came to a halt. So, when the car stopped, I pulled on the handle to open the door but to my surprise, it was locked! It was legit locked and no matter how many times I pulled on the handle, the door wouldn't budge. 

Keeping my cool, I politely told the driver that the door was locked. The driver innocently acted as though he had no idea what was going on and that he had only realised my problem upon my revelation. Because I was sitting directly behind him, I couldn't make out what he was doing, but it looked to me as though he was trying to unlock my door from his seat. He fiddled with the car's lock mechanism on the driver's seat, I think.

At that point, my only optimistic guess was that child lock was on. I stayed put even as he was "tried" to unlock my door from his seat but whatever he was doing was clearly not working. I half expected him to get out of the car to open the door for me from the outside as if it's really on child lock, the door should be able to be opened from the outside but he didn't even bother to get out of his car.

By then, I thought, "Screw this! I'm getting out of here!"  I couldn't sit still and I didn't want to stay in the car any longer so I slid to the other side of the car and tried to open that side of the door. 

Thankfully, it wasn't locked and I managed to open it. And even though I almost had a panic attack, I was even kind enough to thank him for the ride on my way out! And even up to that point, he was silent and said nothing.

I slammed the door shut and ran into the mall, half traumatized. 

This is my scary Uber experience. Never have I ever in my entire life imagine that such a traumatising experience would happen to me. I had always trusted Uber and other E-hailing cabs to be safe. Moral of the story, it's not safe to get on an cab alone at night.
