“This is a one way trip
There’s no coming back”

“I’m cold
And I’m scared”

“You think you’re scared now?
Just fucking wait”

“Why?
What’s out there?”

UNABLE TO CLARIFY

. . .

I’ve been sending you signals
since the launch
and all the data you’ve collected
analyzed
processed
showed you my new home
in this beautiful darkness

I’ve shown you things
from the farthest reaches
haunting
surreal
mysterious
and your eyes glowed
like the Pleiades

(but did you really see?)

How do they just throw you
out into the darkness
and expect you to keep in touch?

This is not my voyage
This is my exile

Tearing through calendar sheets
two years of turbulence
three years of bondage
nine years of altered states
twelve years of skimming the clouds
before finally disappearing into the void
forever

At eleven miles per second
I’ll leave you all behind
with nothing to remember me by
but the faint sound of my voice
rippling across the sea of stars
to your pale blue dot

and as I look back
the last thing I see
before reaching the city limits
is your crescent smile
bidding me farewell
one last time
