#589 HURRICQNE FRANCES Read Count : 125

Category : Poems

Sub Category : N/A
We’re sitting in the house all safe and sound.
The wind outside is howling all around.

Hurricane Frances is coming across.
We hope that much we have won’t be lost.

Shingles blowing from our roof and others
A lot less rain would be our druthers.

Trees are down at two of our neighbors.
Electric is out, the electric company labors.

It’s getting a lot worse, the battery radio says.
We’re now hoping that our whole roof stays.

Gusts are blowing hard and trees are being down.
Little things breaking away, scooting over the ground.

With a freezer of ice, we are prepared as much as can be.
Buckets of water, windows taped but we can still see.

Bob inspects and patches the roof during the eye
Others, are retrieving stuff and hoping for a clear sky.

Without the TV and telephone we feel quite alone.
Thousands and thousands of people fled their home.

Previously on vacation in North Carolina we had the urge
To return home to protect it from the wind and rain surge.

The siding is popping all around the house,
Shingles flying off the roof have our fears aroused.

Hours and hours of this storm is predicted
Before the winds and the rain will be lifted.

This is the worse storm to hit our area here,
The worst they say in over a hundred years.

A hurricane now downgraded to a two at landfall.
So things will be better than first warnings call.

Frances was back to back with hurricane Charley
Who left damage not yet repaired or hardly.

All through the day and all through the night
Our roof wasn‘t spared from this strife.

But we fared a lot better than some did
With roofs coming through like popping a lid.

God bless us all as we soon try to recover
And please let this hurricane season quickly be over.

But the weather reports predict another hurricane brewing
We won’t get much rest before our efforts are renewing.
