Today is my birthday and
I get to do what I want to do.
I think I’ll go out with friends
And play a round of golf or two.

You do that every day I say.
Wouldn’t something else be nice.
I’d like to play golf today I say.
And maybe even play it twice.

Then you went and left me home alone
When I wanted to help you celebrate.
So I packed up everything I’d need
Including a present and a cake.

I sneaked into the restaurant
Where you end up for a drink.
I was going to help you celebrate
No matter what you think.

On some silly pretense
A friend kept you behind
When you came in for your drink,
You sure were surprised to find

The loudest happy birthday greeting
That you could ever fathom
And my celebration was no
Longer a lonely chasm.
