Her face was flushed when she woke up in her nude state. She remembered all that happened the night before and bit her lower lip to prevent the smile that threatened to crawl up her face.

She dared to look beside her and saw him, her husband, fast asleep. Looking extremely cute with his tousled hair on the pillow, she couldn't help running her fingers through it.

They'd just got married and it was her first time, she was so glad she found him, THE ONE for her and although she felt sore all over, she couldn't help the smile that finally crept up on her face.

No doubt she loved him and he her. They were meant to be together. Everyone knew it and some called it destiny.

She saw him flinch and pulled her hand away but before she could turn around his eyes were open and he caught her staring at him.

"Good morning, love"

He said, his voice sounding huskier.

"Morning" she said smiling shyly. He said nothing more but words needed not be said with his eyes and the biggest grin on his face showing every joy he felt.

"Whaaaaat? Stop looking at me like that, you're making me nervous" she said punching him playfully, making her stomach growl.

"And hungry" he said pulling her closer to him, pecking her lips. "I'll fix you something, don't go anywhere" he ordered and got out of bed.

For some reason, she felt uncomfortable and went to tidy herself up and the room.
He whistled as he prepared pancakes while thinking about his beautiful wife.

The sound brought him back to reality and before he had time to think they shot him on his leg.

"Hand us all your money" One said, his face covered in a mask.

He did all they asked and they were about to leave when she called.

"Honey, what's taking so long?"

He looked at one of them, the look in his eyes made him shake his head violently, pleading.

They ran to where the voice came from, three of them. Leaving him alone with the leader pointing a gun to his head.

He fought as hard as he could but he ended up on the floor, so weak he couldn't lift his hands to block his ears from his wife's screams.

Few minutes later, they all left kicking him some more. He saw the knife right there on the counter, all he had to do was get to it and plunge it into his heart. There was nothing more to life, he thought.

With trembling legs he got up, lifted the knife then he heard a whimper and it dropped to the ground immediately.

She sat with her face in her hands, her body bruised. He was standing by the door, not knowing what to do.

She could feel his presence but was too ashamed to look his way.
He saw her, knew she needed him but was too ashamed to go close.

Finally, with slow movements he walked toward her and embraced her with trembling hands. She cried harder and he let the tears in his eyes fall.

"I'm sorry" was all he kept saying till they both drifted to sleep in the mess that life had brought.

Maybe it'll be better in the morning, maybe it'll be worse.
But they'll have breath, they'll have each other.
And that is how it started, so they'll work at it to the finish. And maybe one day, they'll be unashamed.

They'll find a way to fight back when life hits so hard.

The next day...

Those bruises were swelling like tennis balls. Those tears staining her face. They took everything. Police sirens going off in the distance. The noice was so unbearable. The taste of those sweet yet painful tears. We need to get away. So we decided to go to Hawaii. But that was a big mistake...

They took our money, our credit cards and our food....

We are bankrupt.....

But we still stand by each others' side, humming to that song. When life hits so hard, we hit back harder!
