Chapter 1 : A new birth

In Sudan, Africa a new baby will soon be born in the Diallo family. The sweet mother and father already have a daughter, named Jamilla, wich means beautiful. Soon, very soon Jamilla will have a sister. Perhaps her name will be Bayo, or Habibah. Jamilla has no clue what it will be. Nor what will happen once her sister is born. 

Jamilla is so excited to have a sister of her own. At the age of 17, she has never had a sibling. When she thinks of it, neither does her mother, Bunme. But her father, Amare has one brother who he has never met. Jamilla starts to get excited for her sister to come. 

The next day, Jamilla is as excited as the last. Her family, being a quite rich one for the region, sends her off to school in the morning. But what she does not know, is that when she returns home, she will have a baby sister. Meanwhile, her mother and father are wondering when the little girl will come. Surely soon, it has been nine months today. They start thinking of baby names. Amare wants a traditional baby girl's name, but that is not exactly what Bunme wants. She doesn't say until now, but she wants an american name. Such as Elizabeth, or Lily. "Whatever name suits her." Amare says, and they both agree. 

As she is born, the little girl still doesn't have a name. As Jamilla comes home, her father goes and sends her to the brook for some bath water that will be boiled later. "That's it!" Bunme exclaims. But Amare is confused, what is 'it'? Bunme explains that Brooke is the perfect name for the girl. The whole family agrees it suits little Brooke.

The day Brooke Diallo turns nine, her sister Jamilla is already 26, but she still comes home for her birthday. Infact, she has done so every year! But on her birthday, the most terrible thing happens to her... a terrible sickness spreads and her parents become ill, so ill that they cannot speak. Their regular doctor on vacation, no one has a clue what to do. The hospital, the only one in the region does not have a cure for this disease. After a few weeks, sadly Brooke and Jamilla's                                              parents have died. No ceremony, because they were too devastated and sad. But the girls had to find their parents' will for they don't know who shall take care of Brooke now. After searching, they have found their will. Here is what it says about the girls:
 
Jamilla will take care of Brooke if their grandparents have diseased. They shall move to America, as Bunme and Amare have rented an apartment in California. Brooke shall go to a well eduvating school. They keep all their stuff, and they also have books, and we have a love note that they can keep forever for them in the top cabinet in the kitchen. P.S. flight ticket money in same cabinet.  

The girls were sad, but they had to do exactly as the will said.
