I keep my room lit by fireflies
Because the sun is too bright
And the stars too far away to catch
Memories come through the light
Whispering songs of good and evil
Floating through the air
Catching me breathless

So I lay here
And stare into your eyes
Because they glow like the fireflies
And I miss everything
From the photographs hanging on the wall

I just keep waiting for the time
When I can be in your soul
Holding on to those old feelings
So I can sleep at night
Knowing that you're okay
Holding on to the memories
I hope you remember

How can I go on
Knowing that eventually
The fireflies burn out
The photographs fade
And the fish will reach the surface
In a silent backstroke

We can collect their carcasses
And arrange them on the shore
Like some twisted Escher welcome mat
And wait for the night
And that familiar firefly light
