Red is the blood on my skin
Leaving a stain
that no water can wash away
because all the water turned to sand
long ago

I look back at you
and see how I once was
I’m filled with a deep dread
I fear someday you’ll be dead
Someday you’ll be red

I am a desert
Nothing that comes within my grip
stays for very long
Couldn’t take care of myself
So how can I sustain you?
I suck the life out of you
and pour it beneath my frozen terrain
It’s your life
That gives me life

Attempts at contact
bring only static and white noise
I gather your messages
and let the desert winds
erase all evidence of you
because nothing can take me back
to the way I was

I’m red
I’m dead
I’m red
