Beginning: I was five years old when everything got turned upside down and my life went to hell. My mother Isobel Blackthorn, Izzy for short, died of pneumonia after suffering from it for weeks. My twin brothers, Bane and Renji, were ten years old at the time of our mother's death. Mom's funeral was dreary and wet. Rain poured from the sky like the heavens themselves were sad to see her leave Earth. Our father, Gerard, was beside himself with grief. He clenched his umbrella like a lifeline and didn't speak to anyone for days after the funeral. It was a small one containing only our closest relatives which weren't many at all. An aunt and uncle along with a few cousins from mom's side of the family and none from his. Neither of their families wanted them to marry. The Blackthorns feared for Izzy's reputation if she were to marry the 'madman' Gerard. He was known for being well educated and looked down on others that didn't understand him; along with his unethical science experiments. While the KoRune's didn't want their only son to marry someone of such low stature. Father's family was one of the richest ones there were in Japan. While the Blackthorns were from America, and had money issues which is why they couldn't attend their daughter's funeral. My maternal grandparents, Harry and Margaret, did everything they could to try to convince father to have mom buried at their church but he was determined to have her close to him. She was buried in the church graveyard that was down the street from our house. He went to her grave every Sunday after church frequently having lunch with her gravestone. Mom used to have long black hair with brown eyes and a kind smile. She was of average height for a woman of thirty years. They fell in love when they were in college. Mom was studying to be a nurse while father was a scientist and studied DNA. He had always been a scientist even before college. He would often tinker with computers and take samples of anything he could find. They had my twin brothers: Benjamin Samuel and Reginald Henry, named such as to appease my maternal grandparents but were affectionately called Bane and Renji for short, when mom was twenty years old. She continued her education even through her pregnancy and never let her grades waver. She graduated at the top of her class with two proud little boys and a proud husband. I was born as Kaari Isobel when my brothers were five years old and started calling myself Kaia when I was three because I didn't like R’s. Mom stopped working after I was born and decided to stay home and take care of us by homeschooling and cleaning up after our messes. She was our father's whole world and the sun rose and set with her. On more than one occasion he had begged for time to be reversed and be taken instead of her but the fates never granted his wish. Three months after her death father changed. He started locking himself in the basement only to come out for food. There was a powder room in the back of it so he could relieve himself when needed. My brothers and I stayed upstairs and occupied ourselves since we no longer had schooling. Late one night we thought we heard screaming coming from the basement but it was soon muffled and died out. Days later we heard a child had gone missing and thought nothing of it. The screams we had heard days before were either forgotten or thought to have been from our dreams. Eight other children went missing throughout the passing months. All were listed as runaways and eventually forgotten except by their families. I went to sleep as always one night but woke up in chains the next morning. They were bolted to the floor and short so that I couldn't move around much. Sunlight came from the small window up on the right wall leading to the outside and the cellar door. Father came in from upstairs eventually. His dark boots clunking on the wooden stairs and made them squeal. "Don't bother with calling for your brothers. I've asked our neighbor Miss Nanami to watch them for a few weeks. She was more than glad to since I'm mourning and all." He said. He turned to face me and I saw his face full of rage and disgust. "It's YOUR FAULT!!!! It's your fault she's dead and now I'm going to fix you! I'm going to make you what I want!" With tears in my eyes I whispered, "What...what are you going to do? What do you want father?" "DON'T CALL ME THAT!! You are not my child!! I'm going to make you into what you really are...a killer, but first I need to do a few tests and preparations." I remember him grabbing a loose chain on the floor and let it fly at me. To this day I don't think he cared if it hit me or not. When it did hit me though he made sure to do it again so that it wasn't just an accident. When I could barely move from the pain he tightened my chains more so that I was laying on my back on the ground. A common fear tactic so I could no longer see what he was doing. I heard his footsteps come back towards me eventually and saw him standing by my right side with a short rod and a bright yellowish orange X at the end of it. He held my right arm still and put a knee on my chest so that it'd be even harder to struggle. He made the X come down onto my wrist which made me scream in agonizing pain as the rod burned my skin. I tried to kick and smack my other hand onto his chest to get him to move but I was too small and weak . After a few minutes more than was probably necessary he pulled the X off and exposed the raised welt. "There, now you're experiment number ten. Try not to die. I've put in too much work for that to happen." He said cruelly while getting off of me. During the next few weeks he took my blood and other various things from me. To this day I don't know what exactly it all was but I remember there was something that resembled blood for two hours every day, along with something else that was clear. I was instructed to call him nothing except Sire, which I've come to find out means father, and was referred to as Experiment X. My skin got darker and my brown eyes started changing to red when my emotions got high. My hair changed from its raven black like my mother's to white as snow. At the time I wasn't sure why since I had the limited understanding of a terrified five year old but apparently extreme torture and lack of sunlight does that. My bones, hair and blood were repeatedly broken, cut or drawn to see growth rate and differences. I found that my hearing, strength and speed doubled due to the things Sire was doing to me. His greatest achievement and main goal apparently happened when I turned into a mouse after hours of him screaming at me and explaining in theory on how to do it. He had altered my genetic makeup to allow me to change into anything or any person I wanted or was instructed to. He made me into the perfect killer and got me a weapon to fit. It was a scythe that was as tall as him. It had white scales on the hilt and the blade was cut with ovals on the outside. It had a red diamond inside the blade at the base. I watched as the blade and hilt disappeared when he touched the gem. He inserted the gem into a case on a chain to make it seem like an ordinary necklace then put it around my neck. Once that was done he made sure I was strapped into my chair and stuck a needle into my arm to take some of my blood. Soon after I heard a door open above the stairs. My brothers were home. Sire went upstairs to greet them after putting my blood into a cup and drank it. I'm pretty sure he left the basement door open so I could hear what was about to happen. Once he got up the steps I heard him collapse on the floor from my blood. Later on Bane had said he saw our father first and came to his aid. According to him Sire had reached out his hand seeming like he needed help getting up only to get pulled down when Bane grabbed it. When Bane was in his grasp he snapped his neck and killed him instantly. Then got up with inhuman speed and killed Renji the same way. I heard my brother's necks break and broke my chains in a rage. Subconsciously I turned my normal human fingernails into claws which I then used to expose his chest and eyes. I remember breaking his legs then pulling my brothers out into the yard. I clawed at my wrist and gave them each my blood hoping that whatever it had done to him would repeat itself. Once I saw them breathing again and was sure they would live I dragged Sire into the basement, chained him up and broke his bones for good measure. I soon grabbed our passports and money that our mom had kept in the safe hidden in the wall in the closet in the master bedroom so we could go visit our grandparents one day. I quickly got clothes for all of us not even caring if anything matched then made my way back outside to find my brothers finally waking up and wiping their eyes. "What happened? Why do you look different? Did I already ask what happened? Did dad just try to kill us? Why did he try to kill us? Did we actually die?" Bane asked me frantically. Renji slowly stood up and eyed me curiously. "It's a long story. I'll explain on the way." I said with a sigh while throwing them their respective bags. "On the way to where exactly?" Renji asked with peaked curiosity. "Anywhere but here, and we'd better hurry because I think he's waking up." I said frantically while ushering them to get moving. "Uh what exactly are we going to do for food and transport little sis?" Bane asked while getting up and glancing in his bag of clothes. I held out the money bag in my right hand while saying "Passports and money are in here. Clothes are in our other bags. Anything else I forgot we can get on the way. I snagged all of the money that was in the safe which was around two thousand American dollars. Now let's go." We all started walking gingerly on the road until we eventually spotted a cab that would take us to the fresh start of our lives. ~X~
