Me and Marcus have been friends since we were seven. We were fourteen here. I knew I was different from a young age. I just never imagined that I was that different. So when I set my homework on fire with my bare hands, I kind of freaked out.
Marcus was there with me. He patted out the fire with his hands before it, well, got out of hand.
Everything was fine and nothing was damaged--but my homework. "Was that supposed to be a prank, Callista?" Marcus asked. "If so, it wasn't very funny. More terrifying then funny, actually."

"MY HANDS!" I yelled. "MY HANDS, THEY BURN!"

I ran to the kitchen and threw the freezer door open. I slapped my palms against the ice and it melted into handprints almost immediately. "Callie?" Marcus asked. "Calista, this isn't funny, are you okay?"

"DOES IT LOOK LIKE I'M OKAY?!" I yell in his face.

I pulled my hands away from the freezer and looked at them. They looked completely unscathed, except for the fact that they were glowing red. "Okay, this isn't normal but I think I'm okay." I said.

It was weird at the time, actually, because the moment I pulled my hands away from the ice, they felt a whole load better. "I feel so much better. See, I'm fine!" I let a sigh of relief escape my lips.

"You sure? You definitely don't seem fine." He laughed

I placed my finger on the grocery list on the fridge, and it blackened and began to smoke.

"I'm just going to go someplace away from here, thanks. This isn't normal, you know." Marcus stared at my glowing hands.

"Marcus. . ." I groaned. "You're never any fun. Just let me have this, okay?"

"Fun?" Marcus yelled. "Since when do you like fun? Isn't it always you who keeps me from doing things I consider fun? God, if only I was stupid enough to think that you like fun. This isn't fun. It's idiotic that you think that a matter so serious--"

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" I yelled. "Since when do you not want me to have fun? You're always dragging me around on your stupid little adventures! When are you going to--"

"Don't say it. Don't you even thing about saying--"

"When are you going to grow up?"

I knew Marcus hated being told to grow up, but I was angry. I stormed out of his house and almost melted the front door's handle, leaving it red. I couldn't believe it could get any worse, but my hair caught fire. I screamed. Marcus ran out and started yelling something about him calling the fire department to extinguish me. If that was a joke, and if I was a different person and not so angry, I might've laughed. I was angry that day, so I ran over to Marcus and set his shirt on fire. He ran around like a crazy person for a minute, then he rolled on the ground to avoid the most serious burns. His shirt was blackened, and he had a few red marks, but there was nothing serious. I collapsed on the ground and burst into tears.

"I'm so sorry!" I said, tears blinding me momentarily.

"It's okay. Me too, I guess." He ran to the freezer, but must've forgotten that I had melted it previously.

"Shoot!" He said.

"You're right." I whispered. "I'm a jerk. . ."

"No, I never said you were a-"

I ran out the front door, wiping my eyes with the back of my hand. I turned left to go to the woods. I finally realized that there was a ten foot tall fence there, and it was no use to try to jump over it. I heard footsteps coming quickly and Marcus yelling my name and asking for me to come back. I grabbed the wires tightly, and when I let go, it was bright red. I realized I could bend the fence, and if I did it right, Marcus wouldn't be able to get through. I stretched the wires barely wide enough to fit me. I crawled into the space and ran without looking back.

"Callie?" I yelled. "Callista, where are you?"

I turned into an alley, and saw the molten wires, bent to form a small opening. I knew I wouldn't fit, so I climbed the fence and jumped down. On the way towards the ground, the back of my shirt managed to get caught on a loose wire. I hung there for a moment, dangling. I tried to pull it loose, but ended up having to rip a hole in it, shredding the skin on my back in the prossess. "Shoot!"

I've always been the clumsy one, but this here was a big whopping case of bad luck. I followed the blackened footsteps to the base of a large hollowed tree. 'There's no possible way she'd fit in that.' I thought.

But of course, my judgment is always questionable, so I decided to go against my gut and attempted to crawl in. I didn't fit. I looked around for any way to get in, and found a conveniently placed axe stuck into that very same tree. I hacked away at the opening until I was sure I would fit in. I brought the axe with me as I crawled in-- I've no idea why, though.

"Callista?" I said. "Callista, I'm sorry. I didn't mean-"

I heard footsteps.
