I awake from my slumber. Gazing around the room. 9:38, the wooden clock on my dresser reads. How long had I been out, I wandered. A lapse in time. Around me lay the needle and its devilish companion, a spoon rampant with tarry substance.
Time had been ticking on, but where have I been? Why had it not stopped to warn me it was going ahead. Moving forward with or without me as it always does. I slowly rise to my feet and catch a glimpse of the hideous beast himself in the mirror. It was as if the devil himself was I.
My face wore the crust of a long slumber in my eyes. Suddenly, a perplexing and eerie thought rolls over me like the dark clouds through a canyon. ''What if I'm already dead...'' Possible. Is it so?
I gather my coat and peer outside. All the world still seems to be intact. A small dog, unaccompanied by an owner scurries across the street. Its long dark Medusa like mane glistens in the sun. ''That dog looks tasty. '' I think to myself. But what shall I cook it with. I'm not much of a cook I must admit, but a touch of oregano and pepper will do nicely.
''What's it about?'' Her blonde voice rumbles in my head again. Suddenly and violently I might add, a door slams shut! ''In my house...?'' But I'm alone, that is odd. My pen ink begins to run dry. Shall I close this chapter or continue? No, this must be it.
I'll put out my cigarette and with it, my pen. Dear pen, goodnight. ''No! I cant, there is more to be made.'' It would be a grave sin to let it die here. The pen and the hand must continue. Brushing off the ashes from my page, I forge on.
I am quickly distracted once more by the weight of my eyelids. I stroll upstairs back to my coffin, pull the covers over my corpse and let the dream begin.
