#128 RIDE ON THE EL Read Count : 53

Category : Poems

Sub Category : N/A
Laughing and joking down into the subway we go;
Buying our tickets, hopping onto a train, we aren’t slow.

We’re all grabbing a seat, if one we are lucky to get.
My sister and I and cousins are getting all set.

As we laugh and talk about our trip, we seem
Happy, looking ‘round, then suddenly giving out a scream.

Rounding a bend the el gives out such a screech,
And my sister and I and cousins hold onto our seats.

High over the streets we look down at the ground,
Then, through a dark tunnel our train’s the only sound.

Soon we’re coming to the end and out into the light.
We all hop out into the station and head out into the night.

For this time to the ice arena we are happily bound.
Our faces are aglow as we watch the skaters come ‘round.

Then back to the station and onto the el,
We feel a bit naughty, but what the ‘el.’

We’re too young we are told to be out so late at night.
We better hurry home before we come to a fright.
