A new little baby as cute as can be
Was put into my arms and given to me
By the Lord up above Who now bids us do
Take care of this blessing whose life is so new.

Then as a tot he's this cute little child with love
Giving hugs and kisses so pure as a dove.
This small child has given you all of his trust
And depends on you still for all that he must.

Entering kindergarten this child may fear,
But you’ll still be beside him giving him care.
And learning and growing he soon comes to be
One of the gang who is trying to be free.

Mom and Dad, I can do it all by myself
He says loudly, but you know he still needs help.
Before you know it he is growing so fast
Wanting to be free, but can’t break from the past.

The teen-age years and the prom come around.
You know you have to let him go to be found.
Reluctantly, you watch as he goes on his way;
Soon becoming an adult, he just can’t stay.

Even though you know in his life he will roam,
You’ll be anxiously waiting for him to come home.
This grown son you knew you wouldn’t get to keep
Reward of your loving you now eagerly reap.
