“So, are we meeting up at your house or mine?” I paused before answering, my parents looked nothing like me because I was adopted, but I didn’t want anyone to know that yet. This was still a relatively new school to me, I started a little after the beginning of the year, I’m about halfway into the school year.

“Yours, my parents won’t be home for a few hours and I’m not allowed to have friends over unless they’re home.” This wasn’t a complete lie, I wasn’t allowed to have friends over if they weren’t home, but they had the day off today.

“Okay, I’ll text you my address.” I knew what game he was playing at, well two can play at that.

“But I don’t have your number, and I don’t know mine by heart, plus it’s dead.” As I said that it made a chime, and he chuckled.

“Dead, huh?” I sighed in frustration, but I tore out a piece of paper from my notepad and wrote my number on it. As he took it from me and entered it into my phone he looked up at me. “What’s your last name?”

“Sorry, I don’t give that out to strangers,” he gave me the puppy dog eyes and pouty lip. “Just make something up,” I regretted saying that as soon as I saw his face.

“Piper Viper.” I quickly turned back and continued packing up, I used to be called that by someone I used to consider my friend. That nickname slowly started turning into an insult. I tried as hard as I could to keep the tears from coming, I pinched my ear, hearing the pain distracts you from crying. Weirdly enough it kind of worked. I heard a chime coming from my phone and saw an unknown number. “Now you have my number too.”

“Thanks, I’ll label it Mr. Annoying.” He laughed, then he started to help me finish packing up. “Thanks.”

“Any time, I’ll see you later Viper.” I let out another sigh, I wanted to ask him to stop calling me that, but I wasn’t ready to reveal why yet. At this school word gets out fast, and I really didn’t feel like letting the whole school know.
